Besides my granddad, all of my heroes growing up were football coaches and musicians. Is there another group of people on planet earth that gives you more life lessons without you even realizing it in the moment? I remember Gene Stallings always saying, "Don't beat yourself," and there are parts of this song that remind me of that. Sometimes we have to punt or fold in life and that is not always a bad thing. Great reaction. RIP Kenny Rogers.

Another good story told in song is "Coward of the County". I always loved that one just a bit more than "The Gambler" or "Lucille", which is yet another sad tale of a broken hearted man... I've been listening to him since I was a little kid (turning 53 next month). he was such a great story teller & that iconic raspy voice is like no other. Thank you & RIP Kenny, for now it's time to "go count your money, because the dealin' is done & you are no longer sittin' at the table" with us...

They were never playing cards. They were just riding a train together. The gambler said he has made a living by knowing what the situation is by the look in people's eyes. Then he goes on to say: if you don't mind me saying, I can see you're out of aces... while he relates it to cards, he is talking about life.

George Jones: If Drinking Don’t Kill Me When The Grass Grows Over Me He Stopped Loving Her Today I’m absolutely shocked nobody has recommended any of these songs (that I’ve seen, of course). Every single one of these will stop you in your tracks and make you listen. I’ve never heard hurt like these songs. Even just to have them in your music collection, not even for a reaction video. You won’t be disappointed.
@spartiate5672 жыл бұрын
Doc, I like your reactions, including toward this song, which I value very much. I want to tell a story here. A few years ago, a "Bio-Ethicist", which in this case was a fancy word for a Nazi murderer, was, in America, proposing that disabled people be killed against their will, because, he said, nobody who is seriously disabled can really have a life worth living. Well, an activist for the disabled spoke in response to this. This activist had been born paralyzed below the waist. He had never walked and probably never will. Now that's a pretty grim hand do be dealt in life. But, he pointed out, nobody in this life gets dealt all the cards they want. NOBODY. No great artists; no celebrity; no political leader; no billionaire, nobody. The richest and most powerful have family troubles; loved ones die or sometimes turn on them; plans they counted on fall through. This wheelchair-bound guy said that the thing to do in this life is to take the cards you were given and play them as best you can. Of course loss and disappointment hurt, but you can either wallow in them or get on with what you CAN do. In fact, let me give a personal example. I injured my knee nearly 50 years ago. It progressively has gotten worse. I lost a cartilage, and have developed serious arthritis. So many things I was not able to do. I never got to try rock climbing. I had to give up riding a bicycle, because if I lose my balance and have to catch myself with the bad knee I could injure it much worse. I could go on. But i have pursued goals that my knee did not interfere with. I cannot do karate, because jumping and kicking are out of the question, but in Judo you can work around an injury, and if you practice long enough, you can succeed with skill where your body has limitations. I know have a 3rd degree black belt. They did not give it to me. I earned it. Every hand is a winner as well as a loser.
