@@raywalsh9152 Ask any New Orleanean. All the gay community in New Orleans was all a buzz about how great in bed he was. It was well known and accepted. I guess if you aren’t from there you didn’t know but the rest of us did. I even had a friend who was taxi cab driver and Kenny hired him to be his private chauffeur. He said he always had guys hanging on all over him and making out in the back seat everywhere he took him. Sounds like you might be a little too sensitive to it all. Weird though since you have a gay son. I’d a thought you would be used to it by now.

Lived in Northern California during the time Kenny Stabler was QB with the Raiders. In that area it was either Niners or Raiders that's who was on TV. What a great QB, I could sit and listen to him tell stories all day long. RIP.

Bradshaw always includes Kenny as one of the greatest all-time and so do I! He could always find a way to win the close ones. The NFL changed the rules because of his ability to bend 'em. Definitely underrated. I would take over any of the Mannings, Elway, Marino, Brady, Fouts, etc.

@@brianevans6328 Another such case was Ron Santo in baseball. But Santo had become such as ass in his later years that maybe the veterans committee members decided behind the scenes to just wait until he died to put him in the Hall of Fame. He did experience some trauma though. His mother and stepfather were killed in a multivehicle accident in the early 70s driving from Seattle to Arizona to visit him during spring training. He had both legs amputated in the early 2000s as a result of complication from Type I diabetes. The most egregious case in any sport that I know of is Dave Parker in baseball. He was a misanthrope. He allegedly disliked white people and probably didn't get along with anyone that well. He missed parts of two seasons because of drug use but still managed more than 2700 career hits. I don't care about his social relations or personal failings. He played baseball and was one of the most feared hitters of his era. He was a big man who prioritized maintaining his quality as a hitter over power production. He won two batting titles and an MVP award during his career. I am sure other people have their candidates, as do I. But Parker clearly belongs. That's what the veterans committee is for.

Ken "Snake" Stabler told some of the greatest, funniest football stories you'll ever hear! I think my three favorite stories he told were (1) the one he told to Bob Costas and Joe Namath on Costas' "Costas Coast-to-Coast" radio show many, many years ago about when John Matuszak came to the Oakland Raiders in a player trade and head coach John Madden suggested that "Snake" room with Matuszak because Raider officials thought "Snake" would be a calming influence on Matuszak. Stabler told them that he'd rather room with Charles Manson!, (2) when Matusek came to the Raiders for his first practice session with the team in Santa Rosa, California, he came onto the practice field riding on either a horse or a moped wearing a German WW1 spiked helmet. Raiders' Managing General Partner Al Davis was standing on the sidelines next to LB Ted Hendricks and remarked, "I don't know about John"! Hendricks replied, "Al do you really think one more is going to make any difference!?" ( meaning, of course, that one more screwball on a team of screwballs wasn't going to adversely affect that team at all - in fact, it actually probably enhanced that team!, and (3) the story "Snake" told in his autobiography about how either TE Dave Casper or defensive lineman George Bueller loved to play with remote control cars. One day when head coach John Madden was in his office at Santa Rosa sitting at his desk, Casper or Bueller sent a remote control car with a bunch of lit fire crackers attached to it into Madden's office and sent it to stop right below his chair. All of a sudden the players heard, " POP...POP....POP, POP, POP, POP" and Madden comes rushing out of his office yelling, "Goddamnit who did that!".😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.

Another great Stabler story is the one he told in his autobiography about the time the Oakland police called him in the middle of the night and told him they had Raiders' defensive player John Matusek in custody and asked Stabler to come down to the police station to pick him up. When Stabler asked what Matusek had done, the police told him they found Matusek wandering around shooting street signs with a .357 magnum!

That may have been a separate incident or the newspaper simply got the facts of the story wrong because Kenny Stabler - who clearly would know the true story - stated in one of his books (or during his interview on radio by sportscaster/sports radio talk show host Bob Costas many years ago) that he received a phone call from the Oakland Police Department and that they told him that Matusek was in custody at the police station when police found him wandering on the streets shooting street signs with a .357 magnum!

One quiet night in the French Quarter Kenny and a buddy were walking down a street. I saw them and ran ahead like an idiot with my film camera, rounding corners to load film and get a picture of them. Kenny's buddy said, "Come here. I will take your picture with Kenny." I told Kenny, "I am a UGA grad who never liked Bama. I never much liked the Oakland Raiders. But I was always a Kenny Stabler fan." Somewhere in a shoebox deep in storage I have a photo of Kenny with his arm around me, both of us grinning ear to ear like we were best friends. I gotta dig out that photo when I have a week with nothing else to do.

This one time, the snake was doing an auto signing at a local sports shop in town but our family had some other commitments at that time and couldn't attend. My mom called the guy putting it on and for a fee of `i was never told how much` we got to go to this guys house and meet Kenny before the auto signing event. I had worn my high school section championship football ring, and he had his super bowl ring on, and we were sitting on the couch watching college football (LSU home game if I recall) and comparing rings. I will never forget that moment in time. I think I was too young to fully understand and appreciate it then but I certainly do now. He was so kind and patient with me and my little brother. Absolute legend. RIP

Mr. Stabler would gather us kids together putting out a circle of chairs and tell us stories much like this one. He was an absolute great and fun guy just like you see in this discussion.
