Yoroichi is a human from a bloodline that gained the ability to become cats centuries ago. Conversely, Komamura is a werewolf living in his half-human half-wolf form. Sadly for Tosen, his bankai is extremely limited. It doesn't work well against ridiculous tanks like Kenpachi, who can just overwhelm him even without their senses, or massive AoE fighters, like Byakuya, who could simply just attack everywhere around them without actually seeing their target. It's only extremely effective against people whose abilities rely on the senses to function, like Soi Fon.

we saw in the tybw arc komamura came from a clan of wolfs but didnt get to know much about it (anime, im sure manga had explained alot since its way ahead)

But the manga ending was rushed because of Tite Jubo's healt, and he is adding stuff to the Anime that he wanted to add to the manga, so we might get extra explenation in the anime. Also, I cant remember they talking about it in the novels either.
