Greetings to my paisano first of all 😀. In real life no power amplifier, even those that weighs a ton don't go from 100 watts/ 8 ohms to 200 watts/ 8 ohms. No one! What is true is that some get close than others. What I mean is that doubling exactly the numbers while impedance halves is not accurate, it's just marketing! A good amplifier that the maker says it can get those aforementioned numbers would show 130 watts at 8 ohms and 190 watts at 4 ohms and if the power supply is robust enough, 550 watts at 1 ohm, that last figure for a short time before the amps gets flames due to overheating. Why is this a reality? When the appliance sucks more current from mains, the voltage tends to decrease. You can have the nominal voltage under no load condition but you can check how the tension decrease several volts at max. power. Only in a test laboratory, on the test bench, the maker assures that the voltage keeps its nominal value independently of current demand. Paul, I'm with you with the bigger the better a P.S. but in the most situations, an amplifier with adequate transformer and reservoir caps will be enough. If you don't live in a castle and have very low impedance loudspeakers, 30 watts will rarely get short even though you don't want to end deaf. Sorry in my english is not perfect. I have more courage than skills 😂
