Hi. The easiest way to visit the Kawaguchiko area for a day is to take a tour bus. There are many tours available on Klook. Otherwise, you could take a train to Kawaguchiko and use trains and buses to get around for the day. If you want to get familiar with the sites in the area, you can watch this video which is a 3-day itinerary. Maybe just visit the sites mentioned for Day 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4eqdY2klsuhnqM Another option is to rent a car and drive on your own, but you would need to research which places you want to visit in advance. 🌸 Heidi

Would you please help this poor soul and his wife? We have booked bus from tokyo to Kawaguchico station and our return for the same day at 19:00 leaving kawaguchico. A day after I booked, we found out that there is a firework show just after we leave. I am trying for days to find another option to leave Kawaguchiko later, after the show, but I was unable to find it. No bus or train I could find leaving around 9pm or later. Please, any clue?

Hi, since Kawaguchiko station closes early you will need to leave from a different station. Please check Shimoyoshida Station. Or if you want to leave a little later then Otsuki Station. The drawback is that you will most likely need to take a taxi to either of these stations. Shimoyoshida is close so wont cost as much but to Otsuki could be expensive. Thank you for the highly detailed information! What is the meaning of the base fare ticket and limited express train ticket on 1:57 ? Fyi, i already purchase jr hokuriku arch pass
@KenshoQuest Жыл бұрын
Hi, excellent question! whenever you are not traveling with a pass such as the whole JR Pass or in your case the Hokuriku Arch Pass, there will be two separate fees whenever you ride on either an express train or super express train ( shinkansen bullet train ). So when you take a local train, consider that your base fare. There is always a base fare and this is the lowest. Then once you ride on an express train, ex: The Fuji Excursion, since this train is an express train you need to pay extra to ride it. Instead of just issuing one single ticket for the express, you get two tickets. The base fare and the express fare. I hope this makes sense. let me know if you need further clarification :)

Why is it not an option to enter Shinkansen at Shin-Fuji station when travellig from Kawaguchiko to Kyoto? Getting to Shin-Fuji (or Mishima or Shinzuoka) is even covered in the "Mt Fuji Shizuoka Area Tourist Pass Mini" while getting back to Tokyo causes extra costs. Or am I missing something?
@KenshoQuest10 күн бұрын
You can certainly get to Mishima station by bus from Kawaguchiko Station. But for the most part, it is faster to return to Tokyo area and board at Shin-Yokohama because you can get on faster Shinkansen ( Nozomi ) and more frequency. Whereas at Mishima most trains that stop there are Kodama, which is the slowest, taking over an hour longer to get to Kyoto. Also, less stops at Mishima.

Thank you for the great video. I learned a lot from it. Question: I plan to travel from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko using the Fuji Excusion Express Train by purchasing the online tickets in advance from JR East website once I am within the 30 days windows period. I plan to travel directly from Shinjuku to Shimoyoshida for short 2 hrs sight seeing before continueing my journey towards Kawaguchiko. I am assuming the same ticket that I purchased online can be used throughout the journey. Thanks
@ptteoh6 күн бұрын
Follow-up question: If I stop at Shimoyoshida St, can I still use the same ticket from Shimoyoshida towards Kawaguchiko (same day journey)? or I need to buy new tickets all over again from Shimoyoshida to Kawaguchiko using the local train? Note: I plan to buy Fuji Excursion Limited Express Train from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko Thank you.
@KenshoQuest4 күн бұрын
If you buy to Kawaguchiko but get off at Shimoyoshida then that will effectively void the rest of your travel to Kawaguchiko. Anytime you disembark ( go through the gate ) on any single journey ticket your ride is over and you will need to pay again. You can only hop on and off trains if you have a pass for that particular region or the whole JR Pass. So in your case, you are better off just buying the Fuji Excursion ticket to Shimoyoshida, then buying a ticket from Shimoyoshida to Kawaguchiko.
@ptteoh4 күн бұрын
@@KenshoQuest Thanks for your reply. I will follow your advise. Hello again, I really enjoyed your live Q&A today. Thank you for all you do. We are planning to go to Japan in January 2026, but we will need to finalise our itinerary to start booking soon. Flying direct from Perth, Western Australia, we only have the option to land at Narita airport at 8.30am. One member of our family gets very motion sick, so the bus is out, but we want to go direct from the airport to Kawaguchiko. Timing of flight arrival would mean we would probably miss the express Fuji train, but we could catch the Narita Express and other local trains. Would we need to book any of these in advance? We would be arriving on Friday 2nd January. Then we want to go from Kawaguchiko to Hiroshima on Sunday 4th January. As per your video, I assume we would need to book the Shinkensen (Green car) in advance, but to get to Yokohama from Kawaguchiko? Are these just local trains? Do we need to transfer along the Yokohama to Hiroshima route? When you transfer local or Shinkansen trains, do you buy/book tickets from origin to final destination? Or multiple tickets for each leg of the train journey? Eg, do we need to buy tickets from airport to Tokyo, then at Tokyo buy tickets to Otsuki, then at Otsuki buy tickets to Kawaguchiko? Or can we buy tickets at airport? Or can we book them all online before hand? Research I've done indicates tickets from the airport don't need to be purchased in advance. This will be better, as it may take a short or long time to get out of the airport terminal. I hope all this makes sense. Thanks again for all your help.
@KenshoQuest8 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for joining us for the Live today! I think you have time to catch the Fuji Excursion as there are trains even at 4pm. Take the Narita Express (NEX) to Shinjuku Station. then switch to the Fuji Excursion. Just be sure to purchase your fuji excursion tickets in advance since they usually sell out. NEX can be purchased at the airport and does not need to be purchased in advance as they are very frequent. But Klook might be cheaper... As per the video, take the trains to Shin-Yokohama station where you will get on the Tokaido Shinkansen. You can again purchase the Fuji Excursion to Hachioji Station where you can use an IC card or paper ticket for the local train to Shin-Yokohama Station. You can purchase your shinkasen ticket up to 90 days in advance from Klook. Otherwise, if you purchase directly from JR you can purchase up to 30 days in advance. You can purchase directly from Shin-Yokohama to Hiroshima. I recommend purchasing on the Nozomi Shinkansen as it will be the fastest train and only take 3:31 to reach Hiroshima. I hope this helps!

What mode of transportation will you take? A mid size backpack would be fine on a train. Highway / Express buses have a luggage compartment under the bus. It’s just local/ sightseeing buses that don’t have room for luggage. If you want to forward your backpack, there is a Yamato Transport office at the Fire Station bus stop near Fuji-Q Highlands. Thank you for the awesome video!! I have a question though; I will be travelling this April from Tokyo to Mount Fuji, is this season good to see the mountain ? I have the JR pass already, I am planning to buy the unlimited pass to get around place just for one day, will this pass cover the transport back from Kawaguchi Station to Otsuki ? or do I need to purchase a separate one ? Would you recommend buying the buss pass for just visiting one day ?
@KenshoQuest10 ай бұрын
Hi, we will also be there this April but we can only hope the weather will be good. It's always hit or miss, so the longer you stay the better chance. typically the best season to see Fuji is during the winter months but spring can be good too. It depends on the type of pass, but most will loop back to Kawaguchiko. Which pass are you interested in for the one day? I do believe Mt Fuji Pass will cover to Otsuki Station. And yes, if you plan to ride around the lakes then the bus pass is a good option for a day as it will be an efficient method.

We much prefer the train as it is more spacious, you can walk around and have restrooms. Also, if anyone in your party gets motion sickness then the train is definitely the better option. Otherwise, many do prefer the bus for this route as it is a little faster.

Start planning your journey there. Which bus you need to take, which bus stop, etc. I cant stress enough how important the bus - stop timetable is. It will save your life!!
