I used this service on my last trip to Japan, November-December of 2023. The concierge at each hotel arranged the transport to my next destination. It was flawless and relatively inexpensive. It was wonderful to be able to navigate a train station without a lot of luggage.One of my hotels did not offer this service but I could have arranged shipment from a local convenience store.

It works great ! Watched a bunch of your videos, including this one, prior to our trip several weeks ago. Two weeks, 6 cities, all over Japan, 3 times using luggage forwarding ... no issues. Was hard to trust (let go) the first time, knowing all of your clothing 'could' possibly disappear. But packed 2 days' worth of clothing in our backpacks, and sent our luggage to the next location. I highly recommend using one of the luggage forwarding services. It just makes life much easier for the traveler. I have lived in Okinawa for 5 years, and have sent many boxes ( maybe 50 boxes) from Okinawa to Tokyo and Sendai using yamato shipping. Shipping time is 2-3 days for tokyo and about the same for Sendai (about 250 miles north of Tokyo) Take care!

Luggage delivery service is great for inter-city travel. I used to be on budget travel when I was younger, but I finally have used the service between Kyoto and Tokyo on my last trip, made the shinkansen travel much more relax. For transit between Airport and Hotel, it may be easier and cheaper to book the airport shuttle bus with your luggage, if available (especially JR-pass is no longer worth it). However, utilizing the 7-day storage on your fast-pace train trip is a great advice.

I used Black Cat specifically because of your videos and I think this is one of the most obvious "duh" moments I've ever had in travel after. My assumption was it would be too expensive but it's honestly not a ton more than the reserved seat on the Shinkansen plus finding a bigger cab at Kyoto station and blah blah blah. Shipping them back to Tokyo for my flight out the hotel at Haneda had them literally waiting in my room for me, safe cleaned and locked and set out on the luggage rack. So worth it.

in this case, I do think Airport Private Transfer seems more worth it. Checked LuggAgent, Min requirement 2 bags. From Kansai to Osaka, 1 Way trip is USD 90. Which is the same as car airport transfer cost. Not to mention you still need to pay for train tix and walk to your accommodation

I have used Yamato Transport and Sagawa. They both provide fantastic, prompt, and economical service. I have used them to and from Tokyo Disney (Sheraton and Hilton hotels) to Shinjuku, to and from Kyoto to Shinjuku, and Fukuoka Airport to Kyoto. In each instance, the luggage arrived in one day. The Yamato Transport at the Granvia Kyoto Hotel gave a 2:30 PM deadline for delivery in Tokyo the next day. I highly recommend takkyubin service!

Yes. If you ship your luggage from the airport using Yamato Transport, you should be able to designate which day you want your luggage delivered to your hotel (within 7 days).

Very informative video thank you :) unfortunately I have found (in March 2024) that passengers on the Shinkansen are not following the rules. Very disappointed that when getting on the Sakura from Shin-Kobe to Fukuyama the area I had reserved was full of large cases... despite there being no one one sat in the specific reserved 'oversized luggage seats'. I can see why Japan is trying to manage overtourism, for example the recent announcement regarding the Gion district. If I do come back to Japan I will definitely go "hands free"

I'm not sure about that. Yamato does ship parcels internationally, but I'm not sure if tourist suitcases are allowed. It might be tricky with import duties. Once you get to South Korea there are luggage services from the airport.

If your hotel does not offer luggage forwarding, you can search "Yamato Transport" on Google Maps to find the nearest office. You can also contact your hotel in Shinjuku to make sure they will receive your luggage.

Hi, if you are planning to use Yamato Transport ( Kuro neko ) I don't think this will be a problem, as they are everywhere. If you are staying in a hotel, you can contact them ahead of time to see if Yamato Transport is available.

HI, it is usually not a problem. We recommend that when you ship your luggage you specify the date of delivery, just let Yamato know you want a specified date, you can do this up to 7 days later. If it will still arrive early please contact your hotel and let them know your luggage will arrive a little early.

Do you know if I can pre-plan all of my luggage forwarding through Kuro Neko while at Haneda? For example, can I provide the names, phone numbers, and dates of my hotels in Kyoto, Osaka, and back to Tokyo all in one go? Or would I have to go to each individual hotel and fill out multiple forms?

Unfortunately, you will need to fill out a waybill for each leg and submit it at each separate location for Kuro Neko. I did see recently that Yamato Transport has an app, but it's all in Japanese and probably requires a Japanese address/phone number. I wish there was an easy way for foreign visitors to submit the info digitally.

We are staying at an AirBnB in Kanazawa, then headed to Tokyo via the Alpine Route all on same day. To keep on schedule, we'd like to ship luggage from Kanazawa to Tokyo hotel, but the local Yamato doesn't say that it has this service. Hi, they should have the service. Bring your luggage to Yamato and say "Tokyo nimotsu". In broken English this means Tokyo luggage. They will know what you are talking about. the pronunciation of nimotsu is. 'ni'= knee, 'mo' = like in more, and 'tsu' = like in tsunami You can also use Google translate and show them. This works too! Good luck!

I wonder if it’s possible to get an answer here since Reddit has not been helpful. ^^; Is shipping luggage with Yamato overnight from Haneda to Yamanakako feasible? Or do I need to look at a Yamato counter that offers faster shipping (or other options)? The info on Yamato’s site isn’t conclusive and I get mixed info about how quickly Yamato can ship outside of Tokyo from poking around online. My mom and I are hoping to ship luggage from Tokyo/Haneda on a Tuesday and receive it in Yamanakako by Wed night. Just thought I might be able to get a more solid answer before heading to Japan. Hi, in general Yamato will tell you it will take 2 days. However, while we have not shipped from Tokyo to Yamanaka, we have shipped all over Japan and usually it arrives the next day for a short distance, even to the Fuji area I don't see any problem. The key is to ship in the morning as early as possible. But no guarantees... You might want to check with other carriers as well.

Hi, my family will be travelling with extra size luggages from Osaka to Tokyo. Unforunately, i am not able to book from Klook any chartered bus service from Tokyo Station to disneyland hotel or luggage delivery from our hotel in osaka to disneyland hotel. We will be probqbly booking the Nozumi between 1pm to 3pm and we are worried that we will be met with the large crowd when we travel from Tokyo station to Maihama station. Appreciate your advice as we are stucked currently.

Hi, have you contacted Yamato directly? I'm pretty certain they will deliver to disneyland hotel. If not, please try Sagawa Express. Another option is to take a taxi from Tokyo Station directly to your hotel. Sometimes, this is the best, easiest and least amount of stress and our preferred method when we have a lot of luggage. Hi, I believe there is a Yamato Transport either in Namba station or very nearby. If this is the case you can send it to the Yamato office. When you ship it, let the clerk know that you want to specify the date of pick-up. In general, they will store up to 7 days, but I don't think it will be an issue if you show up on the 8th day to retrieve your luggage. Though it is possible they may charge you a storage fee for that last day. If you are concerned just ask the clerk if you can store for 8 days. Do a search near Namba station using Google maps to find the nearest Yamato office.

It’s best to tell your hotel as soon as possible, but the day before might be fine. Larger hotels tend to have Yamato Transport come pick up regularly, while a small hotel may need to call to schedule a pick up. This week I let our hotel know the day before, dropped off our bags and completed forms that evening, and the next morning our bags were tagged and waiting for Kuro Neko to pick them up. That hotel had an 11am cut off for having suitcases ready. 🌸 Heidi

Hello again. We checked with someone in Japan and they said that the Courier Service Counter at the Tokyo cruise terminal is normally unmanned. If you booked your cruise through a travel agent, the agent might be able to help you arrange luggage forwarding. Otherwise, a nearby convenience store might also be an option. 🌸 Heidi

Hi. You might want to double check with the hotel you plan to ship your luggage to and make sure they can receive it. Most large or chain hotels this isn’t necessary. Only if you are staying in a small family run hotel or ryokan. Normally all you need to do is tell the hotel you are shipping from, and they will help you fill out the form and they will also schedule Yamato to pick up your bag. 🌸 Heidi
