Yes completely consistent to where I could skip around from series to series and hear pretty much the same thing in order to truly compare the sound. That god awful beat tho! I've never wanted to hear a straight backbeat so bad after a couple minutes!

I was introduced to Dream Cymbals by the matter of how cheap they are and definately has been the best investment for my drum kit. I use 14" hats, 14" thin crash,16" crash from the bliss series and a 20" ride from energy series. Now gonna get those energy crashes and dark matter series 'cause they're serious stuff.

I like your tour set-up mix! I have a full line mix of Bliss & Contact cymbals (including hats) and like the tone. They mix well. I consider them a little more "dirty" sounding - which is not a negative. The only negative (comparatively speaking) is regarding the edges - they are fairly sharp edges, which chew up your sticks much quicker than more rounded edges. I am aware of the optimal strike angle on cymbals, but if that were how a lot of us generally played our crash cymbals, we wouldn't have cymbals that look warped (especially paper thins) from striking the sweet spot. All to say, Dream makes great cymbals at a very attainable price - I highly recommend them!

I'm currently using Sabian AAX & HHX. I like them, but these sound tremendous! I'm going to go hit some. If they sound like his demos, I'm fully in. Damn, they sound good! I'm a hard rock player, so the Energy seems to be right for me, But, I also love the Bliss and Contacts. Man, great sounds, and your playing was tremendous. Thanks for the video.

Now, when he says the Ignition series are beginner cymbals, keep in mind that they’re made from B20 alloy just like the rest of Dream’s (or any other cymbal company’s high end lines) lines of cymbals. The Ignition series comes in a set with a bag that is appealing to a beginner but they are definitely high end cymbals. Great comparison!

I have a Dream Bliss 16" crash, and let me tell you, it goes toe to toe with my Sabian HHX Evolution 16" crash. The sound is different, but the quality and responsivness of the sound is just killer! Highly recommend it, and the price cannot be beat!

So, I bought a 19" energy crash a few months back and have absolutely loved it. Ordered an 18" energy crash to go along with it a few days ago and played it at band rehearsal last night. Idk if I've just been lucky with these 2 but I've had no problem ordering them online like some people have claimed. They sound great together. Definitely prefer them over the zildjian A Custom crashes I was using before. I'm a believer and am in the process of making the entire switch over to Dream.

Definitely an awesome overview of the Dream lineups! I already own a 20" Bliss Ride that I love and it works great as a Crash/Ride. Ordering a 16" Energy Crash and 16" Pang China at the end of the month and I am STOKED! Maybe you can compare some of the China sizes/models in another video? Just a suggestion. Anyway thanks for this comparison! It's super helpful for figuring out which sounds I'm looking for on my own kit!

I waited for years to have money to buy Zildjian rides and crashes and now finding myself wanting to return to Dream. Just something about the character they have, and also the darkness of them. The ‘dark’ cymbals in a lot of high end manufacturers still sound too bright to me. I enjoy dark and jazz like with a hint of trash.

well to explain this: dream is superb to most of the modern cymbal comanies cause they are not blended by the modern requirements of music. the chinese cymbal making tradition is thousends of years old and they are still completely loyal to it whereas mostly of the other brands must go with every weave of time. that means as the modern music came out at the 60 or 70 the old turkish tradition of hand hammering cymbals was ereased completly cause of the new sound requirements for cymbals. more straight hamering techniques less irregular random hammering techniques where used and the hammermarks where going to be smaller and smaller and smaller. even the lathing process is different the lathing is wider cause the cymbal muist sound more clearer and clearer and clearer. but the chinese cymbal companies didnt go with time they where and still are loyal to the ancient hammering and lathing techniques used 1000 to 100 years back. so deep irregular medium sized hammermarks and micro lathing are still used in most of the cymbals wich tends to make the sound fuller and wider in the frequency range so you have deep mid and high frequencies at the same time. also the bell is seperatet a bit from the rest of the body wich makes the sound even better. infact todays cymbal makers even zildjian itself cant create the real original zildjian k and cie from 1940 cause the modern styles of music have led to it that the ancient methods of hammering and lathing a cymbal where most completely lost. but some modern cymbal smiths and dream cymbals are pretty close to the original Zildjian k constantinople from 1930 to the zildjian k istanbul in the 70s. here is my "dream" ride kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIC0cnd9qtOtZqM one of the finest ride cymbals ever

Do you ride much on your crash/rides? or you bought them mostly to crash on bigger cymbals? (on the account of the fact that their bliss and contact series do not seem to come in bigger sizes than 17") I am asking because I want to create a setup similar to yours but am not sure if crash/rides will be fair substitutes for flat out crashes.
@KentAberle
@KentAberle 7 жыл бұрын
The bliss line goes up to a 22" crash ride. There is also a 24" small bell flat ride thats easy to crash on. I prefer larger thin cymbals as they are easy to play but still have plenty left in the tank in case you really need to lay into them. They feel great to play too.
@GorcStew
@GorcStew 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for response dude...still looking in to order whole contact series setup but not sure about whether to get an actual 20" ride or a 20" crash/ride. Looking at video demos and it seems as though some are washy enough to crash and others have a much more stiff gong-like sound when crashed. (I practice in acoustic setting where volume is an issue so 24" anything is out of the question lol)

So... I'm a pretty experience percussionist, and been on-and-off practicing on kit over the past five years (haven't really been gigging at all). But I'm looking to get more serious on set. If I were looking to step/jump up from the Sabian B8s that I picked up along with my set, should I even bother getting an Ignition pack? Or would it be more worth it to invest into one of the other series? (mostly interested in the Contacts, as they do seem to be among the more versatile ).
