in 50 years of playing around with guitars I've never seen or heard anything like this. To get 6 strings to sound like an orchestra requires very inventive analysis of each part of the tune and really invent ways to create the sound. At first I thought it was trickery, the playing is so clean it really is unbelievable. The is world-class, self-taught, inventive guitar work that seems from a different planet. My goodness, this is exquisite playing. He should be interviewing agents. The very best I've ever seen. Totally different, TOTALLY DIFFERENT. WOW!

My childhood friend and I used to listen to Tears For Fears going surfing in St. Augustine Fl. We spent lots of great times in the early 80s and he ended up dieing in a turbo prop plane crash while on a site seeing trip. I was so upset and cried over my high school friend. One day, maybe 10 years after his passing I went into the Walmart while going boating. I see Jason's mom and she recognized me immediately and she ran and gave me a giant hug and cried on me. She knew how much we played together as childhood friends. It was good to see her and I told her how sorry I was to hear of Jason's passing. His mom told me he always spoke of riding dirt bikes and having fun with me. So......every time I hear Tears For Fears.......I am reminded of memories of two boys climbing trees, riding bikes, playing football, swimming in the creek, skipping stones, fishing and listening to TFF....... Your song took me back to 1987-88 and I still get to think of my dear friend Jason. R.I.P........

I've convinced myself that Kent is the main character of an epic anime. He has a hidden sensei, a teacher that had a dream to combine the best finger style techniques and play them simultaneously, creating the ultimate guitar finger style ever to be seen in the world. But to learn the technique would require to completely unlearn the guitar, from the feel of the chords and scales to the flow of the strums and riffs. The teacher searched high and low, and found no one worthy or capable of inheriting this new style. He had almost given up hope, and resigned that the style would only be in his dreams and never see the light of day, until one day he took a young child under his wing - Kent Nishimura. This child was a rare talent. He could feel the rhythm. He could make the guitar sing. He could resonate completely, from soul to soul, to be truly one with the song. From an early age, he had mastered all the techniques of finger style, from intricate chucks and slaps, to precise pull offs and delicate tap harmonics. Then one day, the teacher gave him his last assignment, that if he could play it, he could officially surpass his sensei and become master. 4 pieces of music were in front of him, 4 different scores. "Play these all at once, using everything that you have learned" the teacher commanded. And then he was gone. The difficulty! Just playing the first phrase, with the base and the voice together, was like nothing Kent had ever done before. He couldn't do it. He wanted to give up! But, that first phrase, when he played it, the music... it truly came alive. It filled the room and was like nothing he ever felt before. Kent was moved by the music. He determined to go on, not for his own sake, but for the music's sake. He persevered, completing phrase after phrase, until one day, his teacher returned. "Play this music for me." And Kent played, and the music came alive. The notes danced off the sheets, and for one minute, the whole world was lost in the sound of it. A new style, the pinnacle of finger guitar, had been born. A tear rolled down the teacher's cheek. His dream was complete.

There are lots of great solo fingerstylists all over KZbin. LOTS of them. This young man will exceed them all if he doesn't already. The difference is not just technical ability. It's MUSIC. Many of the other great players can come up with technically great arrangements, but only a select few create music that I want to hear again, as opposed to just technically proficient chops I can appreciate as a fellow guitarist. Kent, thank you for the music. Keep playing man, keep growing.

it's just a schtick. There is a lot of skill involved...but it annoys the crap out of guitar plyers. Everybody knew some guy in college who did this stuff. Then the rest of us would jam tf out while he went to the quad to play for girls. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!!! To each his Dulcinea.)
