Not one healthy player on UK’s roster played PG ever. That being said, Williams is incredible but the lack of a true PG is reflected on both ends of the floor. Give it some time. Pitino went 14-14 his first season. Cheer for these boys . Try to enjoy this season with class. They’ve given us some incredible memories and have overachieved. Stop the poisonous toxic comments.

@@allmine0131 the comments aren’t toxic or poisonous.. they are just speaking on the lack of effort this team is playing with, and effort doesn’t require a (true pg). We fans would not mind losing if it felt like the team was playing with all their heart! Granted, some of the players are giving it their all! 100%! Just not 100% of the time. Defense is solely measured on the amount of effort put forth. Defense is rarely coached in a practice. 1/2 court traps, full court pressure schemes, some zones, that is practiced some…but mainly defense is just “go out there and face front your man and stick to him like glue. So, when the team plays with effort, fans are ok with that!

Pope lost his best player and floor general in Lamont Butler and their backup point guard is out also with injury so they have no true point guard whatsoever and that’s critical in running this type of offense! This is not on Pope this isn’t his fault… these injuries has crippled this team… not to mention Lamont Butler was the best on ball defender they had. They will be fine if they can get him back at some point but if not this team will not be very good without a point guard.

Lamont and Kerr were steady hands bring the ball up and getting the offense going. WE HAVE AMARI bringing the ball up sometimes! We have a freshman who never saw the court until garbage minutes a couple months ago as acting PG. Lamont was a disruptive force on defense who kept offenses out of their flow. He gave us the edge we needed to be as good as we can be. There's a reason all these transfers are not in the league and were not superstars in college basketball. We all need to appreciate what the coaching staff has done to win the games that they have with the circumstances we have here. We all had huge questions about this group coming into the season. They have the misfortune of playing great basketball when all the parts of the team were working together. They surprised everyone and then raised the expectations. The fanbase is forgetting how fortunate we were to get the wins we got. We don't have the guys to lock teams down - that's the issue. Lamont is the X-factor here. Everyone just needs to chill and understand that the odds were always stacked against us from the moment Cal left us at the time he did. We don't have the dudes. That's just the reality.

Where I disagree with you about the lack of point guard is that we shot well...the problem is the LACK OF EFFORT on defense. Go watch Pitino's teams...they play SOOOOOO HARD!!!! Louisville Arkansas and Illinois coaches have all figured out how to deal with injuries..all these problems were here before the Butler injury…they were in fact 3-0 with a win over Tennessee without Butler before Arkansas.. the fact is Pope’s teams have never played defense… can beat anyone when they’re shooting well.. but also 1-5 against unranked power conference opponents.. this season is very similar to what he did at BYU

The defense was still terrible even when Butler was playing. Sure Butler could cure some of the problems with turnovers etc but their defensive efficiency wasnt any better with him than without him.

with butler we were playing a lot of top 15 offenses. May I remind you we scored 78 on the #1 defense in Tenn. really good offenses score on everyone. then you had UGA and UL where the refs marched them to the FT to help score a lot with BS calls. we werent good defensively but if we were playing in any other conference, our defense would look a ton better because we wouldnt be playing so many damn good offenses.

Butler's great on-ball defense was kind of a bandaid that disguised how bad our defense was overall because he always bumped up our steals per game and made life difficult for opposing point guards.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses. U.K. may have injuries, but U.K. has a coaching problem. Mark Pope is not going to take U.K. to the levels Coach Cal did. Mark Pope wasn't even a top 5 candidate for the U.K. job, but U.K. had to hire him because no one else would take the job. Mark Pope was God in the state of Kentucky when he won a few games in the beginning of this season when teams were still figuring out there offensive schemes and rotations. I love coach pope. But he needs to figure out how to mix in some tough love with his positive coaching style. Sometimes you have to be tough on players to get a positive result.

you need to do what every other SEC school does, boosters offering bounties game by game money if they play extra hard and do great things. I know this for a fact, I have cousins, uncles, 2nd cousins etc boosters of Bama, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee.. those schools boosters offered money when it came to UK or who their rival was but saved the rest for football. us, here, nah barnhart would flip his lid as he's done everything he can to keep every booster away besides Craft

There is a whole lot more than butler being the issue with this team. We were winning earlier in the season with Robinson running point. This team has no will to win, absolutely no fight in them. According to analyst if this team is so conditioned why on earth don’t we use our strengths and run these opponents to death, pitino style. Kentucky has always been a team that will lay their lives down on the court to win at any cost; This team won’t even hustle. Defense is nothing more than hustling and keeping a hand in defenders face. We let every opponent shoot wide open uncontested shots. These are d1 players, they are going to hit these shots when they are wide open period! Mark pope is best thing that has happened to Kentucky in a long time, absolutely best guy for the job. We love pope and this team. Enough is enough, It’s time to take a stand, it’s time to fight!

They played two games early without Butler and was down 17 vs Gonzaga and only scored 78 vs Colgate. Yes, they won, but they missed their PG1. And now that teams have seen UK struggle without Butler, theyre extending the defense and applying max ball pressure. Robinson is proving to be more than a shooter, but he's not a great dribbler, Brea's not a great dribbler, Oweh's not a good dribbler, Perry struggles with the physical older SEC guards and can barely dribble whe bodied up. Butler eleviates all that. UK is Top 5 or 10 in fewest turnovers as a team when Butlers is healthly. Hell, just give us Kerr at this point. He cant guard, but he can get the ball up the court and get us into an offense.

Against mid major teams. he wasnt the pg until the end of the game and overtime against gonazaga and that helped because they never in their wildest dreams could think of or prepare for Robinson to run point to end the game . Teams now have film to prepare for us without Butler.

The past 3 games we have dared teams to shoot the 3. Tennessee couldn’t buy one while Arkansas and Ole miss couldn’t miss.

Really just effort. The starters had no defensive effort until after they got taken out in the second half. Pope will figure it out. We have to pressure the ball. We have no problem scoring. TP and TN come in and add the effort, we don’t have to have them score. Carr is just not 100% conditioning wise he’s slow on defense. He’ll get back. We got this. We have a squad. Butler had 6 turnovers two games in a row before he got out. He does help a lot but it’s not why we are losing. Let’s go cats!

2 PGs hurt. We have.no backups that are worth a flip. But what do you expect? Butler and Kriisa being hurt is absolutely destroying us. The season is over. Even when Kriisa and Butler come back they won't be 100% and that hurts on defense. When Perry and Noah are both playing you know your in trouble and the game is over. They aren't ready for SEC basketball. Next year they will be ready but this year heck no! We go where Butler goes. When we had both Kriisa and Butler we was a top 5 team without them we aren't even a top 25 team but who is without there starting and backup point guard. That's why having more guards is more important than having bigs. Guards win championships
