Many parents and students said Butler High's original dress policy with specific rules about hair grooming discriminated against African Americans.

The Clairvoyant you sir donr understand curly hair is fragile and these hairstyles protect it so your comment is invalid
@VbaeCakes4 жыл бұрын
General Too The idea wasn’t to “keep the children out of gangs”. That’s never stated even ONCE in this video. They clearly stated in the video, if you even watched it, that the policy was made because the school and staff thought the kids hair was “unkempt” and “untidy”. They specifically directed the policy towards NATURAL HAIR. Never stated that the kids are in gangs 😂 Also, it seemed like these kids were all very well behaved and their parents were clearly in the video, showing concern about their kids not being able to wear their hair in natural hairstyles. So maybe you should think twice before speaking and don’t make such rude and ignorant assumptions.

Both are equally important. The idea that natural hair is unkempt spreads to the workplace and it's discrimination at the end of the day. If we only worry about learning and grades but we don't fight discrimination then that is only half the battle. Once again, both are important. Just because it's just "hair" demeans the problem. That is like saying that there more important things to focus on-- but that's not the point. It's still a problem nonetheless.

i dont get why what your hair is styled like and think that the rules are stupid. BUT cornrows, braids, dreadlocks etc is NOT natural hair its a style you went and done to your hair. like i said though it shouldnt matter in school
@kikiisnotpressed58306 жыл бұрын
Rob Gillan the point is when we wear our hair in its natural state we also put maintenance styles in or else you can comb it out into an afro, do twist outs, etc. So cornrows, braids, Locs are styles in which our natural hair can be neatly wore instead of all over our heads (not that its a bad thing) so yes, they ARE natural styles meant to keep the hair kempt.

As someone who went to Iroquois High School in Louisville KY when this happened, I had no idea that this was a thing. There were a lot of people at my school with their natural hair, no one ever batted an eye at it. When I seen this on social media, I thought it was absolutely insane. I'd never seen anything like that implemented at Iroquois. Then again, Butler is the most respected and disciplined (polite way of saying they think they're better than everyone else, maybe the students don't think that, but the school itself absolutely) in the district. So I can't say I'm surprised that out of every school, it ended up being Butler who did something like this.
