Absolutely terrible call by the referee, embarrassing. The announcer calling it "an incredibly hard challenge" and the other announcer saying, "I'm not sure he slips" is dishonest gaslighting at its finest.

Learn the rules. A red is a red even if there is no intent.

@@zanez14 A foul can be a foul without intent, but a red card is for a severe violation of the rules. Slipping while in possession of the ball while another player crashes into you is not a red card. Intent can certainly factor into giving a red card, not sure which rules you're reading. Sliding intentionally, but accidentally catching a knee can also be a red card, true. But the slide itself would constitute a dangerous tackle, & there, a card could be appropriate. Also that would be at the discretion of the referee, which this clearly was. This was also not a 2nd yellow, it was straight red. It's an unbelievable call, and a poorly made one.

You haven’t read the rules. A red can be given for any tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent. NO WHERE in the rules does it say that you first determine if there was intent in serious foul play. Serious foul play is serious foul play. This is why Europeans think Americans are idiots when it comes to football/soccer.

On Kentucky's first goal I believe there would have been offside if there was VAR. The person who scored it was clearly onside, but number 9 in front of him was offside at 3:30 and made an attempt at the ball. He would not have had to touched the ball to have been offside; all you need to do is make a play at it. Therefore, if this game had world cup VAR I believe that goal would have been disallowed, but there is no way they are going to catch that in this game.

Same thing with offsides happened to creighton in the next round. I could be wrong about the offsides but either way college soccer needs to get better technology for officiating. Humans aren’t perfect

But why would he go for that tackle? I feel like the ref should recognize that he wouldn't go for a two footed tackle when he's going to win the ball if he just keeps running. It seems pretty obvious that it wasn't intentional, even if you can't see the slip.

Worse red card call I've seen in a while. He's first to the ball by a mile and actually just slips trying to take the ball on the dribble. Unreal.

It shows unnecessary force to break someone's leg like that. Which also shows violent conduct which is a red.
