I have a 1911 I built into 460 rowland a few years ago. My go to carry backup when hunting wild boar etc. Killer little round. Running a 255gr hard cast hand loads for four legged critters and 250gr xtp jhp resized to .451 for two legged (also hand loads). By far my favorite pistol to shoot and it has the power to stop anything I need it to (within reason)

It's catching on in big bear country, not as fast as the hotter 10mm , but more people are learning about the 460 and now 960 Rowland . I've found a 9x25 Dillon barrel to put in my 10mm frame too . I can get all these barrels or send my guns to 460 Rowland in Tulsa Oklahoma to get them rebarreled or order them , and fit myself
@kebertxela78199 ай бұрын
@@RoyPhelps-k8f 10mm is definitely faster but it has nowhere near as much energy as the 460. I would take a 460 over 10mm any day in bear country.
@ashenwings31069 ай бұрын
I mean your right 460 delivers overall more energy and the diameter is bigger the only thing that 10 would have in advantage is velocity/range and magazine capacity. I believe underwoods hottest load is 155gr 10mm that produces 775 muzzle energy but with 460 230gr is around 987 muzzle energy.

Some comments Scott!! 1) .460 Rowland offers a selection of different magazines and springs and will work with you to tune it to cycle smoothly and 2) I have their kit on a 1911, works great, wondering if the recoil on a platform with a different bore axis affects reliability more? I know I stovepipe glocks for that reason. Super fun to see the comparison! I got a deer 1 shot with a .460R dropped him like a brick. Hope you get it working smoothly!

I've been eyeballing one of these conversions for a while. If you're building from a p80 or stripped frame it's a great way to get a lot more flexibility from the platform since it can shoot 45acp, 45 super, and the 460 Rowland. Strange you had so many feed problems, not something I've seen from them before.
@pewpewTN3 жыл бұрын
It has to do with the mags, comp & recoil spring. You have to get all that stuff sorted. Once you do, it's pretty much as reliable as a factory Glock.

Do you know about cutting down 308, 30-06 or even 270 ( I think) brass to use in your Rowland?
@kennethcounts59052 жыл бұрын
@@richardwaid4718 Actually I had not, Thanks. That would be really handy. Any 06 parent case would work then because the case head is the same. Do you have to ream the cases??? I've loved to shoot this thing but I only have so much brass.
@richardwaid47182 жыл бұрын
@@kennethcounts5905 gun smith buddy says no, says case wall is symmetrical at that spot unlike for instance some 223/556 brass that is thicker up top and not friendly to 300 BO resizing. Did suggest that it should be cut a bit long and trimmed to 460 length. I’m going to do some with him for the first run to avoid any brain farts. Also need to research/experiment with primers, that’s kinda Wild West territory, gun smith and Rowland say Federal large pistol for reloading but I wonder about large rifle for a better fit in the rifle converts?? And does a pistol firing pin reliably ignite a rifle primer. Or large pistol magnum primers work better? Or finally, Midway has Underwood 460 ammo for around $150 a rd. Maybe it’s better to steadily stock up and save what seems to be excellent Starline factory brass. I don’t plan on plinking with mine, strictly protection.
@kennethcounts59052 жыл бұрын
@@richardwaid4718 Good info. Now the 460 operates at really high pressure around 40,000. So I would stick with the pistol primers. Quite frankly I'm afraid a rifle or a magnum primer may be too hot. And you could get pressure spikey , And quite a few powders don't like magnum primers. Like H110 for example. A guy could always buy a new brass or swayge your primer pockets if it's an issue. The last pocket swage I bought was like 30 bucks so it's not much of an investment. Or if nothing else fiochi and cci primers tend to be just a bit oversized so when I get brass starting to wear the last trips around I go to them for the life of the brass. I really haven't researched the current powders out there sounds like a need to get on the stick.
@richardwaid47182 жыл бұрын
@@kennethcounts5905 it would definitely make some interesting content, maybe a series on the 460 talking about the data that’s out there and the shortage of brass(1) then the alternative sources of brass that we discussed ( I had an in-depth conversation with technical support at Rowland and evidently it’s their position that anyone manufacturing 460 ammo is infringing on their patent like buffalo bore and underwood) I asked “ isn’t that a good thing to help popularize your product?” Especially since your ammo pricing is somewhat obscene! The tech agreed. (2) Finally, this caliber is getting a lot of advertising lately like military arms channel did a big drill down but nothing much on reloading or the counterfeit barrels out there, brass shortage etc. ( I think Starline is sending all the brass to the manufacturers ). Lots of material here for content.

@@Evergreen1400 funny how my surgeon said the exact opposite. Cutaneous scars from scrapes and burns aren't the same as surgical scars from sewing up penetrating wounds.

@@biggunshandguns3687 1. They're not medals. Those are earned and presented. 2. A Medal of Honor is an achievement won in combat. Getting hurt from doing something incorrectly doesn't merit one. 3. You wear them where you get injured. Words have meaning. When you use them incorrectly, they don't just lose those meanings. They become empty and hollow.

You have to upgrade the magazine spring to make the Rowland cycle reliably, mine works flawlessly

.460 Rowland has actually been around for a long time. About 12 years ago I had a chance to shoot a MPA .460, basically a Mac-10 on steroids, it was a blast.

460 Rowland is for all steel guns but it is nice to have it in plastic revolution.

The solution to the ammo shortage: Produce guns and ammo that the average gun pleb will never hear of so we can still get some ammo.

The hardcast and penetrator won't expand at all in a tomato can, so nearly zero pop. You'd need hollowpoints for that.

Scott’s accent is hilarious. He can’t say Rowland. It’s “row”, like “row, row, row, your boat”. Not “row” like a big, loud fight… hey… wait a minute!!

Hey Scott, something really near and dear to my heart here, I hope you see this. Whenever I eat eggplant, in any style, all I taste is this acidic bitterness that feels like it's eating away the inside of my mouth. That's all, thank you for all you do in terms of eggplant education.

That Glock is definitely something special! It looks really cool but it keeps jamming lol! Awesome vid as always Scott! Ketchup wasn't eventful but Grisco was totally something to repeat! 💕 Ps. Matt keep doing it, first he rammed Tactical T-Rex and now you xD! Loved the intro! Sadly it had consequences to the poor truck lmao

Stronger magazine springs are recommended and even sold by the Rowland .460 people, it's possible Scott neglected to get those, in which case the magazine wouldn't always keep up with the slide. Other people report no cycling problems with their converted Glocks or FNX pistols.
@richardwaid47182 жыл бұрын
The Rowland round isn’t longer, the case is 1/16” longer but the bullet is seated 1/16” deeper. The longer case prevents loading in the 45ACP chamber while the same OAL allows the Rowland barrel to shoot 45 ACP, 45 super and one other that escapes me.

Shouldn't pizza be fine as the heat of the stove destroys the allergenes (the things that cause the reaction)? At least that works for my allergy against apples.

The cycling is faster on a 460 Rowland. You need higher power mag springs to push the next round up faster. After that you'll have no issue. It's no problem after putting in new mag springs from 460 Rowland.
