I worked in corrections for quite some years. We had several less lethal weapons at our disposal: FN 303, pepperball (multiple chemical compounds), clear-out, Sage Gun (37mm impact weapon) to name a few. No one, and I mean NO ONE that was hit with those less lethal rounds took more than two without throwing in the towel. That FN303 primarily was DEVASTATING and was fully capable of shattering a sternum, ribs, shins, wrists with the appropriate rounds and it was ultimately banned my our dept. Pepperball rounds in the OC/Tear gas variety were unbearable in a small area, even for the shooter. Sage gun was impressive and had the power to break a sheet of plywood at close range, although we never shot anyone that close in proximity.

Someone has probably already said it, but the faster you shoot with CO2, the colder and less powerful it gets. After a series of rapid shooting you should see ice forming on the outside of the CO2 capsule. It doesn't take long and as the gas gets colder, the less active it is. It looked fairly cold where you were shooting judging by the amount of visible gas that was coming out. Leave CO2 for a warm day, say 18 degrees celsius and above, and take more time between shots. Keep spare capsules in your pocket to keep warm if shooting on colder days.
@MrFreefonix420 Жыл бұрын
Good tips! Another few I'd add is actually keep the spare mags in a warm place while inside if you have mags with c02 inside them, or like you say keep the capsules warm if they go into the gun, and keeping the gun warm helps too

If ya use the Grimburg HP68 kinetic round with the Byrna, they fire with much more force. One example shows the Grimburg round go right through part of a microwave. Theyre designed with a different shape similar to a gumdrop, or bell shape, but they are compatible with the Byrna. The bell shape fits a bit more snug inside chamber, so theres less energy loss from the Co2, causing the projectile to fire at a higher velocity. Id love to see you do some test shots with them.

Out of all the Byrna products this one is my favorite due to the fact that it allows you to quickly reload a CO2 cartridge. The other Byrna SD and Mission 4 does not allow for that quick of a reload. Once the cartridge is done, then you better run (if the threat is still there). However, with the TCR, it allows you to continue the fight, IF you have more CO2 cartridges. Too bad I purchased the other two first. But my reliance in a fight is based on the effectiveness of the Byrna MAX projectile that disables the aggressor with powdered tear gas (OC) and pepper spray. If aggression does not cease, I go to CQC.
@thomasmacdonough288 Жыл бұрын
I mean, I would imagine the chance of being in a prolonged engagement to the point where you would need to replace the CO2 is so astronomically low that while it's a nice feature it's unnecessary for an actual scenario. I know I'm two weeks late to the party and you'll probably never read this, but if you are interested in trying out some great less lethals, Umarex has a whole lineup called T4E (you already tried out their revolver). The most interesting of which are their full auto HK 416 and M4 training rifles, 40J self-defense pump shotgun (uses 88g CO2 so much lower cooldown effect and more full power shots), and a cool little 16J double barrel sawed off that, with a bit of help from the internet, can easily be modified to fire with much more force (same goes for the revolver you already tried).

That Byrna is nice, but my Umarex HRD 50 revolver puts nylon balls clean through drywall and steel cans, and with steel balls it punches through coconuts !

Looks like a cool paintball gun, im sure it would aggravate a home intrude fairly well as long as it's not too cold for the co2 to run the thing properly. I personally would not want to rely on one of these for anything.

It's a paintball gun just rebranded, it's a tippmann TCR with a valve the can go way up 400-500 FPS you can add a normal Paintball tank they are up to 2 liters 300 bar(the standard field ones are 0,8l 200 bar)
@TylerSnyder305 Жыл бұрын
@@haraldbali788 as I figured it's just a paintball marker, and as such not something I'd want to stake my life on unless I couldn't have anything else. I live in an apartment, and am not thrilled with inviting my neighbors to an impromptu range day in my livingroom. These types of weapons are great for that, though I could also use rat shot or bird shot to the same effect. I'll have to do cost analysis and figure out which one would be better.
@Matt-xc6sp Жыл бұрын
Less lethal not non lethal. I wouldn’t use this in the same situation as an OC spray when you’re not threatened with lethal force yourself. And in that case you want a gun too. Also have you seen the price of pepper balls? Way more than 9 mil or even 556
@BrowncoatGofAZ Жыл бұрын
@@Matt-xc6sp you’d think that the firearm ammunition would be more expensive. Economy of scale?
@Matt-xc6sp Жыл бұрын
@@BrowncoatGofAZ yes. We’ve been making 9mm in particular for over 100 years. Not only are they good at it, but the civilian market is an afterthought compared to what the big manufacturers do with military contracts. Not to mention that everything from the OC mix inside to the balls themselves is proprietary. But the real expense is when you catch an assault charge because you thought the self defense standard was lower so you could wing off a few spicy bois at a vague outline 30 yards away at night. Or when you get caught bringing a co2 powered glorified plastic paintball gun to an actual gunfight.

@Jason Butterworth Depending on how young your son is you might want to search here on youtube about overpenetration. I forget the channel but they had two of these about 3 feet apart and the results were interesting when it came to the 50. The biggest thing I always tell people when it comes to less lethal is when a moment arises and you pulled that trigger you will be wishing you had a real firearm typically less-lethal can end up being more lawsuit and I know some people are going to say that if they live in an area where they can't have of real firearm that just means that a greater chance of that person suing the crap out of you or you go to jail for assault with a deadly weapon

Scott, I've got the Byrna SD pistol, and let me tell ya, the kinetic rounds freaking hurt. They leave a wound wayyyy worse than paintballs leave. The bruises are immediate. They go through clothing and can definitely break the skin. If you use the CS balls or the pepper balls, they will incapacitate for anywhere from half an hour to up to 3 hours. This thing ain't no toy. In close quarters. This thing can debilitate, although you would want a little distance if you use CS or pepper. The LE model has twice the power and can definitely enter the body cavity and can break bones. Especially if you use the aluminum 68 cal rounds. LTL will really screw up someone's day and could put them in the hospital.
