If I'm not mistaken Claiborne's Champion Lure was in stall One when he retired but he had infertility problems....Why did they take his nameplate off?
@RodRagazzo Жыл бұрын
I’m a little surprised at Secretariat’s somewhat pedestrian grave site. After all, Secretariat was known by many as the GREATEST ATHLETE in HISTORY, not just the greatest throughbred racehorse! 🤷🏻♂️

One thing I notice is Claiborne has no statutes of any of their great horses.....I know they moved Champion Lure to another area I think Marchmont or Cherry Valley when he couldn't produce

War Front is very petite. He is not showing his age at all. He has a very handsome face. It would be interesting to see him standing side by side with Flatter, but then there would be a war front. No one wants that.

What was Secretariat’s stud fee? And what would that equate to today?
@meganproffitt4242 жыл бұрын

In the cemetery: Are they cremated, buried whole or head/hooves/heart?
@suzanneyoung80114 жыл бұрын
The older ones are head, hooves and heart. Beginning with Secretariat in 1989, he was buried whole in a wooden casket with a Claiborne yellow colored lining. Swale, Round Table, Nijinski II and Mr. Prospector were buried whole. I don't know about the newer burials there but around 2012 Kentucky began requiring that horses be cremated. There is another video of the Marchmont division cemetery that explains this.

Since Zenyatta lost to Blame bu just a nose, she should of been bred to him once just to see how that foal would of turned out. Seems like Zenyatta is having some bad luck with her foals surviving the last few years. I pray that her production of healthy foals come to her.

I went 4 years ago and the only thing that bugged me was that Secretariat's modest grave was in front of an air conditioner stuck into the wall of the building! Certainly not as dignified as the tomb of Man 'O War at the Ky Horse Park! The breeding barn is so simple compared to the one at Winstar with viewing boxes...ugh! (Clarification: the UGH is for the Winstar viewing boxes, not Claiborne's breeding barn...)
@suzanneyoung80114 жыл бұрын
Well if you noticed in this video that air conditioner unit is no longer behind Secretariat's grave. You can't compare this to Man O' War's monument. That was constructed over 70 years ago at Idle Hour Farm where he stood at stud, and it was later moved to the Kentucky Horse Park. If you've been there then you know that a very large statue of Secretariat is there to honor him as well. Regarding the Claiborne breeding shed, that is hallowed ground you're criticizing there. There have probably been more champions, classic winners, leading sires, leading broodmare sires and prestigious broodmares that have shaped the breed worldwide either bred or conceived in that breeding shed than in any other one in the world. Not even Calumet compares since their heydey ended over 30 years ago. Claiborne has been a very successful breeding farm for over a hundred years. Their traditions and the old barns are very important to them. All are maintained in immaculate condition. Why change what works? To compare them to WinStar is like sacrilege. WinStar is a fine operation and very successful. But it was started in the two thousands, and the buildings are new. It's a first generation, new money operation. Whereas, Claiborne is owned and operated by the fourth generation of Hancocks in its original location. Suggest you read up on the history of the breed in Kentucky and the pedigrees to better acquaint yourself with it.

@@suzanneyoung8011 I wasn't clear...the UGH was for the WINSTAR Barn....with the viewing area! That breeding place was like a factory! That "viewing box" creeped me out...it was so sterile and business-like. Just gave me an odd feeling. I loved Claiborne and after the tour I lingered...didn't want to leave. The breeding barn was simple and seemed personal and private. I could imagine Secretariat in there. I was in awe. And I'm glad they got rid of the A/C unit behind Big Red....Claiborne is lovely and the guide let me take a rose from a bouquet at the grave home which I still have in a glass jar as part of my Secretariat shrine...Secretariat got me through as my mother was dying, so visiting Claiborne and his grave was emotionally very important for me...one of the high points of my life...along with being at his birthplace on the anniversary of his death only a few days before I got to Claiborne...and having the author of Secretariat's Meadow (Leanne Ladin) leave up the big life-size "banner" of him up for me to see even as the fair was being dismantled...and giving me a personal tour of the barns and the foaling shed....Seelng his playground as a baby and the river where he escaped to and swam in was really something...
@robertmitchell95293 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too! Thought for sure he'd have some special type of shrine for him. 🤷🏾♂️
@secretariatgirl42493 жыл бұрын
@@robertmitchell9529 Well, at the KY horse park his statue is right at the entrance...if you turn left, there is a long promenade bordered by trees...it reminded of a place in Europe...at the end is the MoW area. I can almost imagine Secretariat and MOW coming down from their pedestals at night when no one is there and meeting in the middle of that promenade.
