“I haven’t seen him yet. We’ll get together in a couple days…we got a long trip back, we just came off a Wednesday game on the road and we got a bus waiting for us and… Hey, what about ___ ? Did you see him tonight? And they always say “why don’t you ever play so and so” well, I tell them you know it’s like I said, I can’t hide you here. But I’m proud of this team, I like my team. They’re young, they’re gonna make some mistakes. I said just go out there and have fun. Play basketball. “

BYU guy here. Look careful at that BYU team Pope got to 5th place in the Big12. No joke, but they had ONE guy on that whole team who played above the rim. And unfortunately, that one guy (A.A.Atiki) -- in terms of basketball skill -- couldn't tie his own shoes to save him. (He wasn't picked up by the new staff -- & is now at U New Mexico) Not having a guy who played above the rim not only translated to not having a true 5, but to not having a competent defensive OR offensive 4, either. Honestly, of our skill-competent players, Jax Robinson probably got over the rim better than anyone we had (not that he's even all that high-end of an athlete -- heck of a player, though). I look at the bios of the kids on this roster of yours, & this team is EXACTLY the kinda kids Pope wants in his first year (given the Portal recruiting he was mostly limited to, anyways). He coulda gone the International route or held out for bigger fish in the Portal, but building ground-up he wanted experienced players he knew would buy into the team. (In fact, I know over half of em besides the two BYU guys -- as many of them competed against BYU the last few years -- which I'm sure is no coincidence in why Pope pursued them.) This team here is WAY more talented than BYU's team last season. And that's definitely in terms of both ways. In Pope's 5 seasons at BYU he never had anything close to a balanced roster, let alone a balanced rotation. What I see here is a super balanced & super experienced team -- even if it's lacking in the individual star power UK fans have grown used to. Don't think for a second that Pope CAN'T win an SEC championship with this group of young men. This team definitely has it in them to shoot their way to a Final Four.

Then you aren't paying attention lol Koby Brea best shooter in the country. Amari Williams three time defensive player of the year in his conference. Garrison MCDs all american with size and potential. Butler best guard defender in the country. The whole team can shoot.

I feel the same way. This team just seems really average and somehow fans are convinced that Pope is the guy who is going to do more with less. Kobe Brea who is often mentioned as one of our saviors, the top 3 pt shooter in the country- did so playing for Dayton averaging 3 attempts per game and only 11 pts. Hardly a game changer. Like you, i guess we will see.

YES it is! They’re just so little! No size or athleticism at any spot. Team full of shooters, but what people who’ve never played organized ball do not understand is, there are MORE missed shots, then made shots during a game, that’s why rebounding will win or lose games. Oscar single handedly won games for us simply by his rebounding. This team is gonna get absolutely DESTROYED on the boards. I predict a decent out of conference record, but SEC play is gonna be hard to watch, I don’t see this team making the tournament, no way!
