Followed this Video from start to finish. Faulty part on our Kenwood was the 0.1uF. Replaced both 0.1 and 0.15uF as suggested. Clip is so clear and easy to follow. No details left out! Thanks Mike !

Nice Video Mike. I have repaired a few of these. I usually use Rifa Caps that were original factory fitment. Radio Spares sell them Part numbers 210-516 & 210-500 Also that large 56 Ohm resistor is a good idea to fit also as this is uprated from the original. Lastly good to see you fitted new feet, this is really important as these allow airflow from the motor cooling fan. Worn feet allow base to seal against bench & the motor can overheat as a result. Awesome mixers, made to last a lifetime of use.

Thanks Mike, Yes the brushes are shiny, still a good bit of life in them. Plug and socket are good. I have checked continuity through to the PCB and all in order. Is there a cut out switch I'm missing?
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt Жыл бұрын
I'm not aware of a cutout or trip but thats not to say there isn't. Unfortunately I don't have a circuit diagram to pin point suspect components or check for a trip. I think I'd go down the route of trying to measure the component values and replace as necessary or go to eBay and get that kit of bits. Sorry I cant be more helpful on this one. Thanks for the comments and of course for watching. Good luck 👍🏽

Really helpful, many thanks. On slow speeds does the motor seem a little more lumpy & slightly juddery compared to half speed & full speed ?
@MikeMakesIt

Hi kel, just checked and while it sounds as if there is a slight “judder” this does not seem to be reflected as a speed issue as the spindle turns smoothly. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching👍🏽

Hi Mike, Thanks for the video its really clear. I have a question - my Kenwood 30years + just stopped working. No smoke or bang or anything. I have stripped it down but all components seems to be in good shape no strange smells or anything. The brushes are about 25% of the original. Do you think it would be one of the Capacitors or resistors? Any suggestions appreciated.
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt Жыл бұрын
Are the brushes both shiny on the ends. If so I'd move onto the motor controller side of the board assuming the fuse in the plug and socket you are using are good. I think eBay still sell kits of bits for the board so in that case I would change all the bits supplied and hopefully that will nail it. If it was possible to safely check you have power after the mixer switch that would be a good thing to check first though. Good luck 👍🏽

This is a brilliant video thanks! Do you know how to take the control knob off? Mine is broken but I’m not sure how to do it?
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joel. Yes I do. If you look at the knob straight on there is a rectangular piece of plastic that runs from the 0 to 4-5 markings on the other side . On mine if you get a pointed knife I am able to insert this (at the Zero digit end) between the rectangular piece and the knob and gently prise it out. This will reveal the end of the control shaft. On the shaft is a very small clip which needs to be slid off. When this is done the knob can be removed. I hope this helps, thanks for watching 👍🏽

You should have used the resistor in the kit too, especially as you had the board out. Original spec is too low power, that is why they supply an uprated one.

I have a much simpler problem with my KM250, but it has me stumped. Good news is that the mixer works just fine, but the control knob has separated from the machine and I've got no clue as to how it was ever held in place. To be clear, the outer dial (black, in my case, with no numbers) and the inner white circular piece to which it is attached via a metal shaft (i.e., the gizmo that cleverly flips the on/off switch and moves the pin that, in term, moves the speed-control circuit board) are attached to each other (via that shaft), but it is not clear how the white piece is supposed to be held in place in the machine. Not sure if there was some retaining clip that has gone missing or whether the shaft was supposed to lock into the hole in the machine body. (Note that the innermost end of the shaft does not extend beyond the inner side of the white piece, so unless that shaft snapped off -- which it doesn't appear to have --there's not an obvious way for the end of that shaft to lock in place. Any help, including a detailed assembly diagram or a picture of how this is held in place, would be greatly appreciated. Note that this is not quite the same machine as in this video, but hoping someone with a KM250 can help. Thanks kindly...

Hi Elsquared222, let me take a look at mine and the spare knob I have. I believe there may be two variant of knob/control . The first is a simple turn to alter the speed and to turn the machine on and off. The second one is where a pulse control is incorporated into the knob/shaft. I’m away from home so give me a day or so and I’ll see what I can find out. 👍🏽

@@MikeMakesIt Mike, mine is the simple version. There's a groove on the back of the white (inner) part into which the pin fits that mechanically raises/lowers the circuit board as the dial turns.

OK, I'll dig mine out tomorrow and let you know 👍🏽

Mike, problem is solved and it was as trivial as I suspected. Somehow the white (inner) thingie had slide along the metal shaft such that the shaft no longer stuck out the back end of it. I had peeled the "Kenwood" label off of the black knob, but had failed to notice the secrete (barbed) panel behind it, so didn't realize I could access the outer end of the metal shaft from there. Once I popped that panel out, a few whacks on the outer end of the shaft caused it to extend inward and gave me something to stick back into the machine. A wee bit scary that friction is all that holds that shaft to the machine, but seems to be working fine now. (And, if it fails again, I know where to whack.) Thanks again for your reply!

@@MikeMakesIt Thanks, it's very kind of you. I would like to know the distance between the moving and fixed parts of the motor, those separated by springs with screws, and what references it has taken. In the video he talks about 17 mm, but I can't understand how he got the measure
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt 2 жыл бұрын
@@raghirar Check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qonbiZilbqqAg8k The distance I measured on mine was about 17mm. This measurement was from the underside of the PCB to the metal motor case. Take the measurement where the bolts with springs are. It would be best to measure yours before its dismantled really.

@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryno. Thanks for the feedback. That’s a shame it’s still not working. If the caps and transistor have been replaced because they were faulty then they could have blown the fuse in the plug (UK). If not checked out it could be that. There are also many other things which could be causing the none running of the machine but the parts in the video probably cover the vast majority of the issues found with this particular machine. Thanks for watching 👍🏽
