I bought this exact graphic equalizer in 1883. I still have it and it still works

I use a 1/3 octave EQ to balance out room resonances / deficiencies only. Use white noise with a calibrated mic feeding a spectrum analyzer to calibrate the listening room. Once set, I never change it.

Well, the design is at least halfway decent. They kept the power transform our way away from the audio and they kept the power supply away as well So that will keep the induced noise at bay

Equalizers are fine if you use them judiciously.

An EQ is only good with white noise, a spectrum analyzer, and a mic. The point is to make the sound flat, not boosted or cut unnaturally. Professional venues use them for flattening response. I used to tune movie theaters with an R2 analyzer, (THX) which had four microphones and an analysis display. If your receiver has an auto-analysis feature for setup, when it uses a microphone, I suggest using it. Most amateurs used EQs incorrectly and made their stereos sound horrible.

I have several ADC equalizers. One thing I found was that the F5 spray flushes out the damping grease and ruins the feel of the fader, making it feel gritty and unpleasant. There is a fader grease that can be applied post flush, but overall it never really feels like it originally did. I only use the EQ for the light show along with an LED power meter and a pair of spectrum Analyzers in my homage to the 80s system. I sold off my Cerwin Vega AT-12 's so that system is now being sold off piece by piece.

The braking effect is easily emulated by application of a miniscule quantity of highly viscous grease to the non-conductive surfaces of contact. That's precisely how this "feel" was achieved in the first place by the manufacturer. Now, obviously, I don't "flush" them, but rather take them apart for cleaning one by one, lots of fun with a 12 band.

1/ you don't use a apm who do not not work. 2/ i use a spectrum analyser for EQ. 3/ And open all the faders, because of dust in it and clean it.

Equalizers became popular with home audio because of home recordings being pretty low quality and also being of variable quality. It was the popularity of cassette recorders and cheap tapes that lead to people needing more control than the standard bass, treble and high/low cut filters. Of course this meant people found they could apply more EQ to other material to boost certain frequencies and cut others, it also meant they added distortion but most people actually preferred a little distortion to a pure clean sound anyway because that's what they were used to hearing.

Eq are not just a must but great more bass more treble is why like my 8 inch large wattage bookshelf speakers 150 rms each need that EQing. but i get it unless your into a bands like rap gross lol EDM or mostly say disturbed or pantera skillet and the alike flat is ok for the easy listening stuff

Late 1970's.........EQ's were it, I even bought 1. Now, I hate these things with a passion. However, makes for a Good Video. You were right about empty box, looks like a cheap CD player or FM Tuner, just bigger. Sound generator seems to be an absolute when testing one of these. Was that a mini relay I seen on that power board.
