Sorry if someone does' t like the video, but I only used my smartphone to record, and I do not have any tripod for that. Anyway it is very simple and if I was ahle to do it with one hand you can do even better with two hands! :)

You cut the two bridges to disable the factory frequency filter. With a TCXO installed the TS480 is rock solid on all bands and modes.

This is the blurriest "HD" video I've ever seen. It's strange what passes for "High Definition" today. That said, this is a very good, very informative video. An aftermarket SO-3 TCXO can be purchased on Ebay for only $14 delivered to your door, while the Kenwood brand runs from $90-$110). The aftermarket brand usually come pre-installed on a small circuit board and as such, have to be desoldered from the board and resoldered onto the TS-480 option board. I've seen numerous reviews by people who purchased these "budget" TCXO's and they seem to function properly. For all we know they're the one's who actually make them for Kenwood, who then applies a Kenwood decal to them! You just never know today . . .

Why do all these tech videos sound like a highway fight scene from Matrix II? Thanks for the video, I'm planning to get one of these radios as my intro to Amateur Radio and am collecting as much info as I can. Helps pass the LONG period between license and saving for *really expensive radio*, lol."Didn't yo momma teach you never to use a magnetized screwdriver inside a radio? 'Sup wich you, foo!" *smack!* First thing I learned in radio tech classes in college, and pretty much the first rule I ignored, lol.

You can use those screwdrivers as long as you are very careful and avoiding screws close to microchips. Personally, this way help you a lot to avoid loosing the screws inside the radio that can be even more dangerous!

Out of the box on 15.600 my kenwood is spot on but on 10.000 is + 0.04... What thats mean for 20m band? ok? EDIT: from Frank Johnson "Two words of caution. In Europe, there is a 10MHz signal from Italy which sounds like a standard time/frequency signal but is NOT. It has poor frequency accuracy. Don't be tempted by the Chinese TCXO from Ebay. They are not just a crystal oscillator but a synthesiser, programmed at the factory to cover many different uses. Although they do use a TCXO and are very stable, the output contains a lot of phase noise which degrades the performance of the RX and TX." *

viewed from ever angle it is still out of focus. But still worthwhile.
