Very good radio, I have 2 one I bought new in the box last August, this was a spare radio for a radio club that was never used,the other I bought on eBay for $175 it had no audio, replacing the caps fixed the problem

I purchased my TS680 back in 1990 and it now has many faults. The relay board had many dry joints, the M.CH/VFO CH encoder is useless and many of the push buttons suffer from key bounce. It's a great radio and despite its many problems it's still used regularly.

I have a 680S from a friend. Very nostalgic to look at it. Looking at ad for sale ad for a Kenwood R5000 and thinking if I should buy it. I don't need it as I own many gears already, but it's the classic look that's so attractive.

The squeal may be the coupling capacitor between the audio Amp and the speaker. My 690S developed a similar squeal. The cap innards leaked out all over the PC board. Clean the goo off as it is corrosive and replace that cap.

I've have a TS-811 (70cm Allmode) that has a bad rotory encoder for the main VFO dail. This is the type that has a smooth dial for VFO but when in memory it has a mechanical change to make it dial into click as moving (the right words to describe it are failing me!) does anyone have any tips on how to repair or for a suitable replacement encoder?

I found my answer in the handbook just now, on a foundation licence 10ws is my maximum output the above radio is 100w
