PEOPLE SHOULD UNDERSTAND few things. 1. Moi was a president in the 80's and 90's, an era that saw OVERTHROWING of governments across Africa, South America and Asia, courtesy of America's ECONOMIC HITMEN. During that period a host of countries experienced CIVIL UNREST/ WAR, ECONOMIC COLLAPSE and CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT, All these sponsored by the US and EU. Kenya was the ONLY Country in East and Central Africa that enjoyed ENDURING PEACE. Thanks to Moi. Kenya was among the few countries IN AFRICA That could AFFORD TO SEND PEACE KEEPING MISSIONS TO WAR TORN COUNTRIES in Africa and Asia. places like Eritrea, Namibia, Liberia, Somali, Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, East Timor, among others. 1982 COUP attempt was kind of things that brought countries to their knees but Moi being African State Man managed to Hold Kenya Up and our beloved country didn't SINK IN A HOLE that swallowed many countries. I was born during Moi's presidency, left Kenya while he was still president. As a Kenya abroad, he is the only president I ever lived under and I always liked Moi. The only people praising Moi are people who directly benefited from his rule, those who were not paying attention or those who just do not know. Moi was not a good president. Not even close. Most things wrong with Kenya took root during his era. The corruption, the tribalism, targeting political dissidents, 8-4-4 and the revision of Kenya's history. The only Kenyan President whose hand I have shaken. He drove along past our primary school enroute to Nakuru. We were ordered to line up along the road, knowing full well that he never ignored students and behold, his long entourage was ordered to stop. The man himself got out and started greeting us with his security dishing out oranges and other goodies. Then he sped off. All within less than 5 mins.

President Moi, to me was a great leader, because I was a teenager during his leadership. I'm a lost boy of Sudan but I was lucky to have a cousin who was a professor at Moi University, Eldoret Main Campus. The Margaret Thatcher Library was built while when I was there. Dr. A. M Chol is my cousin and we used to go to N'geria Primary School. Why? It's complicated. Anyways, N'gerria Primery turned out to be the school I like but my little cousin Gabriel didn't. John Bor was our headmaster and Mr. Isigi, known as "shika maskio" by students was the devil but I admired his commitment. Rainy days and walking on gumboots isn't how a student should go to school, but we did because we wanted to learn....

A great leader always maintain peace wherever there is a tribal conflict and provide hope when the citizens need it the most. Those are the qualities of a great leader and Mzee did all that except he corruption part. You know, kitu kidogo is always kitu kidogo unless we all unite and treat each other as jamii or family. All those kicks I endured that night because I did not have kitu kidogo stay with me and me ribs. Just never let this happen to any refugee, especially from Kakuma Refugee Camp.
