1. As a fellow Kenyan, I like seeing Wanjiru all over Genshin Impact, because her name is Kikuyu. Our actual tribe. 2. From my observations so far, Natlan is mostly inspired by mesoamerican culture - the lore and the geography. The African references are mostly as far as language and names are concerned. 3. Mavuika is a reference to Mahuika, no Swahili reference there. 4. That place where Mavuika is riding her bike may not actually be a real place on Teyvat, but a different realm within the sacred flame. It's interesting that Hine appears in this realm and helps Mavuika remember her mission. Further analysis of this animated short will spoil Natlan archon quests.

The geography has baobab trees, giraffes, and the song is called "anthem of the savannah" so it's supposed to be a savannah biome (mostly tequemecan valley) Also the 6 saurians are based on african animals/cryptids Ngoubou - rhino (electro one ingame) Mahamba - crocodile (hydro one ingame) Kongamato - flying dinosaur (pyro one ingame) Muhuru - lizard (geo one ingame) Kayeke - human ape (dendro one ingame) One is left over (the cryo bat) But sadly they butchered the names ingame, only Muhuru being the geo one is accurate. For some reason the rhino is called Kayeke, the flying dinosaur is called Ngoubou, the human ape is called Kongamato, and the BAT is called Mahamba. While the crocodile is the one being left with no name ingame

Because of the wear and tear, he was confused. There was a street sign next to the bench he passed on the road. The street sign had the year on it. The last time he stopped and met his sister was in 499, and finally he went to Nata 500 years later.

Yeah, it all will make a lot more sense when you're there. I bet there will be pieces that will make more sense to us too once the final act of the natlan quest is done. But it's a cool animation and story even without context surely.

I can't wait to see you reach and react to the things Natlan bc there're also world quests with lore that has names from African culture, iirc. If you want some detail that connect to this animated short without spoiling the Natlan Archon Quest too much, I recommend you read the lore from the weapon "Talking Stick"

The part with her on the motorbike is supposed to represent the 500 years she spent in purgatory between life and death, before she was reborn in the current era of Natlan.

Natlan got inspiration from a lot of places : West Africa, Latin America and culture from the ring of fire as well. Thier lore mainly from Aztec mythology but the language used is Swahili. So for me, this region is kind of a big melting pot from these cultures.

It's not West Africa, it's all of Africa besides North (so sub-saharan Africa). Swahili is an East African language btw
