Even though my "little girl" is now almost 30 years old, the ending of Monsters Inc still makes me watery-eyed thinking back of the many nights I came home from work and snuck by my girl's room and just stood there and watched her sleeping. And those really rare nights when I was able to get home while she was still awake and have her cry out when I walked in the door are some of the most wonderful memories for me. It DOES feel so relieving! At least... when I'm actually ABLE to. While I'm a girl myself (gender really doesn't matter in terms of variations of emotional expression, despite the stereotypes we hear about)... I too have an EXTREMELY difficult time crying, even when I really want to. I suspect in my case, it may have something to do with deciding on the belief early in my life that crying "serves no real purpose and is a waste of time" (but I do NOT believe that anymore, not since I learned firsthand of the feel-good brain endorphins crying can release. I am a HUGE fan of endorphins!. I learned that thanks to "Inside Out".) Specifically, it was that line Joy said "Do you remember when she used to stick her tongue out when she was coloring?"... which really hit me like a truck (given the surrounding circumstances in the movie). Then, a bit of time AFTER the movie was over I realized I was CRAVING MORE tearjerker movies. That was VERY atypical for me but after a bit of research and learning that crying can release feel-good brain endorphins, it made sense. So, I am now a woman in my 30's who is suddenly addicted to tearjerkers. Thank you very much, Pixar 🤣 But like I said, it's still actually difficult for me to find a reliable "trigger" to produce tears from me (and hence my sought-after endorphins!). I swear it's not because I'm heartless lol... I think it's due to my earlier-in-life unfortunate self-training I'd done. I hope to learn to cry more easily... I definitely want to! But it's frustratingly hard for me to find a movie that triggers me to cry, and funnily enough, watching tearful KZbin reactions to tearjerkers actually makes me feel envious if I'm not triggered to cry with them lol. BUT that being said, there HAVE been some successes- "Interstellar" did it for me (twice during the movie)- THAT was a pleasant surprise, and that's what got me looking up "KZbin movie reactions" in the FIRST place because I wanted to see if that movie "got" anyone else like it did to me!. "My Girl" definitely did it, too. And, the "winner" for most intense tear-triggering from me was... "The Land Before Time." That was the only one that caused several tears to drip from a height onto the backs of my hands. But that was a very long 6 months ago... so maybe you can see my frustration lol. (And no, re-watches, even if they're up to a few years later, don't have nearly the same effect as the first time watch).

I was around 35 when I saw Inside Out... the part that "got me" the most was when Joy says "do you remember when she used stick her tongue out when she was coloring"). I would normally use the phrase "made me cry" instead of "got me", but it was an unusual circumstance where I was with my roommates and was SO determined to NOT cry in front of them, that I actually managed to not actually shed tears BUT was DEFINITELY crying INSIDE in every other way imaginable, plus the effort I put forth to NOT shed tears actually felt like it hurt my brain! SO much so, that if I could go back in time, I would NOT have chosen to hold that aspect in! But despite the lack of shedding of actual tears... apparently the feel-good brain endorphins that can get released with crying STILL DID get released... because a short time after the movie was over, I realized I was CRAVING MORE tearjerker movies. That was VERY atypical for me but after a bit of research and learning that crying can release feel-good brain endorphins, it made sense. So, I am now a woman in my 30's who is suddenly addicted to tearjerkers. The Toy Story one is the one that hits the hardest for me. I was very lonely as a kid and always used to play with my toys, I could project a different world in which I didn't have to handle the reality I had. I really felt like they were all I had, and I didn't need anything else. It was a hard time passing them on as I grew up, but I knew they were going to bring joy to more kids in need. Still, I kept some of them to this day.

Speaking of the phenomenon of "genuinely trying not to cry"... I always wonder how I looked when one particular "Inside Out" scene "got me" (the one where Joy says "do you remember when she used stick her tongue out when she was coloring"). Thank you very much, Pixar 🤣 But, I found out that it's actually difficult for me to find a reliable "trigger" to produce tears from me (and hence my sought-after endorphins!). I swear it's not because I'm heartless lol... I think it's due to some earlier-in-life unfortunate self-training I'd done.

It depends. The more close aged siblings/cousins you had while growing up, the less actual physical toys mean. For only childs, or 10 or so years gap with the closest sibling kids, yeah, possibly. For a fifth on six siblings, with a couple of cousins you saw almost every day? Not so much. On the other hand, being closer to your gramps up until you're grown up, that makes the Up scene hit like leaden core bricks drop un you, and if you've lost a pregnancy at some point of your life on top of that, then its on Saturn and from orbit.

I think this was actually the first time I managed to watch Toy Story 3 without crying. But oh my God Bing Bong hit hard! Inside out is a masterpiece, I think because when it came out, I was Riley’s age and just resonated with her so much. Everything Pixar does apart from the Cars sequels are beautiful though.

I was older when Inside Out came out, and a kid when the sad originals came out like Up and Toy Story, so I was holding back tears with Bing Bong

I guess the lesson in disney films is that we have to grow apart because we have to follow our own paths
