Keon Johnson is essentially doing what Brooklyn fans want Ben Simmons to do as far as impacting the game offensively and doing some defensive things as well in summer league. Plus Brooklyn doesn't have to pay him $40 million to do that 😮😂.....

The sample size is too small, plus this is a summer league game. We don’t know if Keon Johnson is really going to be what we want out of Ben Simmons, but this is a start.

I've been a big Dariq Whitehead fan since the Nike Hoop Summit, but I can't disagree with Doug's critique. It's still early, but I don't see any signs that his burst to the rim will come back. It could be that Dariq doesn't trust his legs yet & hasn't 'let it go'.. But ntl it's been quite discouraging so far.

This is funny cuz as a duke guy I watched a lot of dariq before he was at duke and never thought of him as a burst to the rim guy but burst at the rim guy. At montverde my comp for him was Rj Barrett/ jimmy butler

100% agree. I never got his hype. His HS game showed him as more of a horizontal leaper with below the rim finishes. He's clearly rusty though which makes it look even worse right now @cameronbolden5064

Dariq needs time. He's coming off of 2 surgeries and not playing consistently for 18 months. He will likely need until the All Star Break.

If the All-Star Break and the trade deadline are around the same time, you are 100% correct. Let him develop his legs and find his game in the G-League. Then, once all the vets are traded, put him on the main squad and accelerate his development

Dealing with the surgeries on his lower extremities, Dariq probably needs to get over the mental block that keeps him from truly testing his legs. He needs to play in the G League and we will start seeing that athleticism return

Thought taking Whitehead that early was a stretch when they made the selection and have not been proven wrong as of yet. Dude looked like he lost a step in college. Just because Levert worked out doesn’t mean the Nets should go to that strategy often. However, if I was Dariqs trainer I’d say if you suffer from lower body issues and have struggled with explosiveness cutting weight can help. Right now they have him at 6”6 220. For a comp Cam Johnson is 6”8 210. I think cutting some weight and getting to about 200 for Whitehead might help. I know this kids sometime race to bulk up too quickly but not every player has the body to put on excessive weight. Just for reference when Whitehead was player of the year in around 2021-2022 he was listed at 185 lbs. between that point, college, and now he has gained 35 pounds in 2 years. Seems like too much too fast for a young kid who now suffers from lower body issues.

Caris was a necessary risk given Nets situation then. Dariq was unnecessary risk, even more so now that Nets are rebuilding and have a plethora of picks. That draft had sooo many 18/19 year olds that had potential without Dariq's injury history (GG, Prosper, Bates, Miller, etc)

Again, he was 185 in High School and has gained 35 pounds in 2 seasons. Seems like he got a little too heavy a little too quickly.

If we are supposed to be tanking why send dariq to the g league? He should be learning and gaining from experience... I really don't see what we lose by playing him 15-20 mpg besides games that we WANT to lose

I just don't think he looks anywhere close to NBA ready at this point, and it would seem better to bank some G-League minutes before he gets there. I also think the playing time would be considerably more consistent and available in Long Island.
