oh yea... I wonder if Lagrange points are still a thing? oh god... I've put some thought into this. well, Ill start with the Lagrange thing. yes they would still exist, but in a really messed up manner. SOIs would be... ridiculous. in fact, the closer to an object you get, the less said object's SOI would be apparent. and since distance increases gravity, the most massive and distant bodies from an observer would exert the most force. to help you wrap your mind around this, imagine the entire universe and quite literally everything in it (even light, as it produces gravity too [look up a kugelblitz]) connected by unbreakable elastic rubber bands. the farther you are the more force things exert, and the closer you are the less. so to put it simply, if you thought the big "Rip" or big "Crunch" was bad, this would basically be a perfect combination of the two. everything would attract to the other sides of the universe with truly insane amounts of gravitational force; which assuming the universe is finite (oh dear I don't even want to imagine if it were infinite), and also a sphere, the direction would be towards the center of the universe more or less for everything (since the farthest point in a circle is the opposite side, which happens to be straight through the center). unfortunately, the gravity would be so strong it would quite literally shred space time everywhere. so as a person in this universe and the laws of physics get switched over, you wouldn't even get atomized. there wouldn't even be radiation left, much less quarks. the only thing that may survive is something that does not exert gravity in any manner. And anything like that hasn't been found yet, so not much luck there. *_It would literally delete a universe in a fraction of a second._*

Alto well, I wrote this assuming it was basically like flipping a switch, and gravitational pull over distance still kinda remained. Normal gravity is infinite in range as well. But yeah assuming things had to propagate you would have about 8 min before the sun suddenly rips earth to pieces; and thats only the beginning.

Just a heads-up, with the way you coded it gravity does not actually increase with distance. Normally, gravitational force decreases with the square of the distance. What you've done is added a linear function that effectively increases the gravitational constant of the universe. As a result gravity decreases quadratically with distance, yet increases linearly with distance. This nets to a linear decrease with distance. The gravitational force is still getting weaker as you get further out (eventually). This won't be the case at first, as you're increasing gravity based on the distance to the planet's surface whereas normal gravity is decreasing gravity based on the distance to the planet's center of mass. But at sufficiently large distances (where the difference between distance from COM and distance from surface becomes negligable) you should notice a linearly decreasing gravitational force on your craft. If you truly want not just the gravitational constant, but rather the actual gravitational acceleration on your craft to increase with distance, you'll have to use a more than quadratically scaling formula. And if you want to be truly evil, you can have gravity scale not with altitude, but with the speed of the craft.

This is shockingly interesting.
@minetech48984 жыл бұрын
I have 2 questions. First, was the gravity of the body increasing or the effective gravity on you? Because it seemed that the gravity was increasing linearly, but gravity decreases exponentially. Seconly, does this mean you could thrust away from a planet, then get more energy on the way down?

Gravity changing also changes orbital mechanics. To the extent that for example you can never truly reach escape velocity. Unless you completely rebuilt the patched conics and on-rails warp system to handle dynamically adjusting gravity correctly, going into on-rails warp will mess things up.
