:/ you trying to be sarcastic? I mean, I can't imagine being the person who constantly talks about being bullied up till beyond idek what age. I'm trying to be nice here. But like? You let ppl control you like that? Bc I consider my own blood line to be the worst. Everyone else? Well, you came, you saw, you can go about your merry way now. Bc I don't even think about that sh. If I do, it's rare. But I'll question you more for it before I ever allow it to get under my skin. & Yeah, every.single.time. there's always some issue going on w/ the "bully." Like, lol. I'm supposed to be insulted by that? YeahNO!Really, I just truly hate anyone who's ever wronged me about anyone or anything permanent (or could've been) in my life. Well, I hate ppl who belittle trauma too tho. Go back to your safe bubble. No one even asked. But yeah, so in my world's things arent so wrapped around petty. With that said, imagine having your head constantly obsessed about looks. Not just everyone else's, but you're own too tho. & I'm not even that person. I'm not some goddess, I don't think my sh don't stank. But I don't feel so low about myself, the only way I can feel good about myself is to tear other ppl down, compare myself, wever. But yet, i somehow still cross ppls minds more. Glad to know that I was what you used to define your worth? I mean, I could brag about sh. But you know? Ppl either get grossed out by it, or get jello. I know I get grossed out by conceited ppl. Some of em don't even have it like that. So there's that, irony. I remember once, I really don't even remember the situation. But I know I was kinda dumbfounded by it, & I didn't even say sh in response. & This guy watching me, out of no where, like how they sometimes tend to do, giggled & said, " it must be painful being beautiful." I smirked at how cheesey that seemed for maybe less than a sec, but switched back to irritated in no time. I said something like," shutup. It is tho. Ppl always be hatin', & for no damn reason!" Also, I'll have you know, that I remember this enough to know that this song is at least 15+ yrs old. So yeah, I'm still here.. . In reality, I don't even think about my looks that much till other ppl mention it.

This song literally was the reason I didn’t commit suicide in 4th grade. Also, thank you all who have left sweet and positive messages. To the ignorant few who believe my decision to live or die was based on this song particularly or societal views of beauty... just keep your comments to yourself. You can never fathom what anyone is going through just because your perfect bubble of life has not been disturbed. Anyways keep spreading positivity and love y’all💙. And r.i.p. to those who weren’t so lucky to have found their peace 🙏🏽. And because folks are blind enough to believe I felt this way because of my “beauty” you’re wrong, being raped, molested, dealing with domestic abuse, and verbal abuse as a child is a lot to handle and i was just in elementary school... didn’t really feel like the negative comments deserved a response but I’m sick of people assuming because you’re young you don’t go through anything. You never know what a person has experienced so, instead of questioning why they want to kill themselves just be glad they didn’t geesh !

@shopping_with_lolas It's a long story, but basically Beyonce had a beef with Keri. People forget Keri wrote for everyone since 1999 even Beyonce talked nasty to her. Also Neyo had a beef with Beyonce and Jay Z. So they wrote multiple songs together dissing Beyonce, because behind the scenes Beyonce and Jay Z were sabotaging her. They both got Keri blackballed. At one point Keri tried to extend an olive branch before this song hit, but Neyo and the record label forced her to put this out. If you think about it Keri had been writing hits for about 10 years before her first album came out which is extremely odd. She released an album in in 2009 that sold well, then in 2010 that sold well, then never released another album after that never released an album again 🤔. Jay Z still throws shots at Neyo just a few months ago he tried to elude to Ney begging for Beyonce tickets

This song is underrated as hell and I feel sorry for the people that missed the message entirely with this song. Big ups to Keri Hilson, I know being an artist was not really her thing as she is more so a behind the scenes songwriter but I commend her for stepping out into the limelight for a bit to put out her own message in her music. Pretty Girl Rock will forever be a classic because it teaches girls and women to feel comfortable in their own skin and not to allow others to put them down no matter what stage they are in their life. ❤❤❤👍🏽

Roxyl LC Fox As an American I can tell you first hand, although there are many shades of complexions, darker skin tones are not the beauty standard here in the US. Many of our African American celebrities that are considered beautiful have lighter complexions such as Rihanna and Beyoncé. So diversity in complexions doesn’t equal acceptance of all skin tones unfortunately. I’ve never been bullied about my complexion, but people have kinda insinuated I can’t be %100 black, of West African descent because of how I look, and asking if I’m mixed, which I feel is not even remotely a compliment to insinuate that I’m beautiful because I have to have some type of mix, or one of my parents is mixed. It’s like saying “you’re pretty for a black girl”, completely backhand compliment and offensive. Because of how the American beauty standards are, many women of darker complexions and black women are going against what society says is beautiful and have started accepting our complexions. This may not be related, but we are also accepting our hair textures, hence the “natural hair movement”, which is a continuation of us also accepting that our hair texture is beautiful as well.

I just love how some people say this is a conceited song. Did anyone not hear the end when she was saying YOUR beautiful??? This is a song to let females know they are beautiful and should act like they know. Walk with your head up, a pep in your step with a smile on your face everywhere you go and your beauty will shine through to others. Show confidence and love yourselves while showing support to other females, ladies. Build each other up instead of tearing each other down. And that dear friends, is the pretty girl rock :)

Yea well sadly thats not how girls think or act. and before you or anyone else start rippin' into my hide for this I am a girl as well with 23 years of experience of havin' girls takin' turns rippin into me I can very well say this. As sad as it is girls/women/females/ladies just see each other as competition for their men or place which ever it may be. We're very vicious, conceited, backstabbing creatures and we make t-rex's look like puppies. I do agree with what your sayin but reality comes in with a mean right hook and a upper cut in this. I mean guys try an figure us out an lets face it women understand women and we can't stand each other.

lydia daniels I know females are like that, but why not break that cycle instead of feeding into it??? It seems dumb to me to just go around hatin on other women, when what I got is just as special, and instead of being envious, why not just work with what I've got? I agree that women are competitive with each other, especially for the attention of men, but it doesn't have to be that way. By just giving up on the issue, you're also giving in. I want to encourage women, and lift them up. Every other female should start doing the same, because it honestly doesn't have to be the way it is now. Like Tatyana said, only insecure women do that, and women need to work on their insecurities, and love them for them, instead of being jealous of other women. Society teaches us that hatred/envy/competitiveness is the way of the female, but we must break this cycle, so that the next generation of girls will know better.

lydia daniels ok girrrrl, youve got some pretty bad views! i completely get your point in that girls are naturally catty towards one another (although its heavily worsened by society) but that doesnt mean ALL girls are exactly the same. Also girls are ALLOWED to have some negative traits, were human, so dont be so cynical! i know you got that end part of your comment from the 'dont try to understand women, women understand women and they hate each other' meme and i just wanted to call you out on that coz its a pretty damaging mentality. the fact that men dont understand women isnt womens faults, its mens and women dont hate each other coz they understand each other, they each other because of competition. And even if, that doesnt mean women deserve to be hated, were human too just like men and they rarely get called out for the dumb shit they do! anyway sorry for the rant, peace!

Im not gonna lie. When I was younger I used to hate this song cos I thought it was big headed and conceited. But now I've grown up and received alot of hatred/jealousy and toxic people because of the way I look. I take pride in my appearance and behaviour and because of that I exude beauty. And sometimes I feel down cos of all the dirty looks I get (especially as a Black woman- they HATE to see it). Now I get what Keri is singing about. Shes telling us to own our beauty and forget about the haters. Look at the line of beauty icons us Black women can be inspired from that owned it eg. TLC, Janet, Josephine Baker that the video showcases. I have new found respect for this song and its my new anthem for when Im walking down the street and I get dirty looks. I cannot understand how people don't get that the point of this song is just to tell girls to be confident in yourself and know that you're beautiful no matter how you look or dress like. She's saying that this is how girls should feel about themselves, instead of constantly nitpicking what we don't like about ourselves. She said so herself, "I'm giving you an example of how I think every woman should feel about herself. No matter what anyone tells you - you're too tall, you're too short, you're too big, you're too skinny ... there's so many 'rules' to society's view of beauty. I wanted to dispel that and get rid of that. We're all beautiful in our own unique ways, you just have to find that happy place within yourself. And that's what the record's all about." Such a simple concept yet everyone wants to interpret it into something bad.

A lot of you guys are missing the point of this song. Its encouraging women in the Black community to have confidence in themselves, for a lot of Black women lack confidence because of how mainstream media portrays what is "beautiful" (Slim figure, narrow nose, straight hair, etc). Shes saying to appreciate who you are and to not succumb to the pressures of Eurocentric beauty, all while dressing up as Beautiful Black women from different generations (Josephine Baker, Donna Summer, Janet Jackson, TLC, Diana Ross, to name a few.)

Eunuchs made that way by others were abused. Those that choose to live like Eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven are bisexual people that choose partners of tbe same sex but opposite in gender. Gender is determined at birth in your BRAIN. It is attached to one's soul. Anyone that says any different is now blacked out from the Hily Spirit and will be until they either repent or wait too late and die w the wicked. . . . .jgf

Every girl who grew up listening to this, is definitely a pretty girl now ♥️ this feels so crazy to listen to know and confidently sing the lyrics. I think that’s what Keri wanted young girls to feel like when listening to this obvi.

Keri's homage to Janet Jackson is just as good as her homage to TLC. But I also love her homage to Josephine Baker.

Michael Lovely When I said I love the video & that I view her tribute to TLC as everything, I meant that I view it as _special._ Not superior, but _special._ Idk how I didn’t manage to convey that before but to anyone who was _confused,_ I’m making that clear now. Have a good one.

This video was the reason why she was blackballed. The music industry functions like the mafia or any competitive industry. The threat was too great. This video showcased her incredible talent and magic power. To this day watching this video gives me goosebumps cuz it's that good and does the job of emotionally resonating with folks. No matter how things went down...she still was able to create a legacy with her magic. And that in itself is greatness... I'll always rock to this.🙂
