Super col!!!.such a great find....I love the build...I am sourcing metalworking and woodworking machines to be able to start my build of an 1928 Morgan/GN special hillclimb racer....A 3 wheeler with 4 wheels...It has a BMW engine and MG powertrain ...The frame is Woden and steel and there is aircraft cloth over a "Buck " of sorts that makes up the body which gets sprayed with plasticizer exactly like the airplanes of the late 20's...Thanks for inviting us into your shop-John

That 302 GMC, econoline straight axle, built powerglide,9 in Ford on ladder bars and coilovers. Comet wash car and matte clear whole car, trim it out after. American dk center mags all oround with M&H slicks and skinny tires up front. I get carried away when see something I'd like to build. Love the steering wheel and dash in this also, and that frt emblem and hood trims are just plain cool. Nice buy!!

I would build it with a 283 Chevy punched to 301, Hillborn injection (modern era or vintage but the modern would have to look vintage), a G-force 5 speed, '57 Olds/Pontiac rear with the posi unit, race axles, and gears from Fabcraft Metalworks. Rear suspension would be a 4-link with 4130 tubes and high load spherical ball ends (heim joints), it just makes sense if you are racing versus ladder bars. A Watts link is simple to fabricate. Front suspension of course would be a straight axle and of tubular design instead of the I-beam shape. Ford used this axle from '37 to '40 on cars with the 60 h.p. V-8. To get a fiberglass front end for this would be expensive and slow to acquire because your fenders would probably be used to make the molds. Obligatory spoke wheels and if possible, a set of Halibrand Magnesioum (very expensive) period correct wheels. Vision American Muscle wheels also look the era. A pushbar for the rear could be made from a 4" pipe with the pipe cap threaded or welded on as was done back in the day to replace the bumper - it adds weight for traction . I have always been enamored by the Hill and Zartman "Filthy Forty". I was at Capitol Raceway Park back in the 60's when they did a wheel stand that went up onto the pushbar. My jaw had to be on the ground as I looked at the undercarriage while standing near the track and the return road forward of the starting line. I thought it was going to go over backwards. Hot Rod Magazine posted this photo in an issue in which they featured Hill and Zartman. I now have that issue after all these years. BTW, when the front end came down, I watched the wheels turn inwards and outwards a few times. They did not race that day and loaded the car onto the trailer and left. Something broke. That little 283 was turning a lot of rpm, possibly close to 10,000. As the gassers changed, Charlie Hill and Greg "Porky"Zartman kept up with the times. I believe the car was lost in a fire or accident on some highway. Not sure but they may have been part of the S&S Parts Race Team. Anyway, this would be my way of building it. The STP shirts are real cool. ST = Studebaker Tested Products.

I really like er! Van axle up front. Standard trans. And engine hmmm. You said you gotta rocket. Good engine. As for the rear. 411 gears. Traction bars and wheelie bars.

The STP jackets are nice , but nothing compared to the STP pajamas the Granatelli brothers and crew wore at the Indy 500 during the late '60s . That Jimmy 6 in the ol' Steadybreaker probably would have put the car in G/Gas or even lower .

I can only think of a couple or 3, maybe 4 Studebakers I'd love to own. One is the 40-41 coupe, another is a 37-39 Coupe Express (coolest looking pick up ever), of course a 53 C/K coupe and maybe an Avanti. I wouldn't throw out a bullet nose for leaking in the garage either. It would have to be a Starlight though. The "Lazy S" of the logo is supposed to represent "the road". Amazing to think Studebaker started buy making wagons, buggies and such before the (American) Civil war in the 1850s. They made a lot of the "prairie schooner" covered wagons that traveled west back then too. A really long and storied history Studebaker has. Look at some of the late 1920s and 30s cars and you can see they were really stylish cars. I have a '48 Starlight coupe that's a project. While not one of my favorite years, the styling has grown on me. I hope you continue with the Studebaker. There are a few other channels doing them off and on and I'm trying to keep up with all of them.

Econoline front axel, that GMC engine and a hydro. That would make a cool G/ Gasser. My Dad had a company, we sold STP to the gas stations and garages . STP had a red VW buss , the color of those jackets. I guess red was the color.Granatelli bought STP and went to mass marketing , that ended the STP business for us.

Cool car. I love a gasser but I also love a driver. A 5.7 hemi with an 8 spd and AC would be really nice. Upgrade the breaks and other than that I'd go original and drive it.
@davidanderson239328 күн бұрын
An early Hemi would be fitting for the old ride with a B+M auto and 50 Olds rear axle, and of course a decent front straight axle. A big block Chevy would probably be easier to source for the project than an early Hemi but you can dream, and a tunnel ram to top it off.
@lancemcclellan768928 күн бұрын
If money were no object 392 Hemi, 4 speed, Ford 9" out of a 57 wagon, scooby van axle up front. In my actual reality it would have a nailhead, 4 speed, 9in and speedway axle.

Hummm. Well if it was my project, I'd definitely go "old school". Engine choice, a Mopar 426 Hemi "elephant" (I think that's what it was called) supercharged with fuel injected. 4 speed manual transmission. That rear end I've seen as you enter your shop, don't know what it's called but I know that the gear ratio can be changed out as needed. 4 link rear suspension along with the ladder bars for the old school look as well as for traction. Front suspension would come from a 70s era postal jeep. Should give it the proper ride height along with the strength and light weight.
