'Amour' is by far one of the most touching, depressing and heart-breaking films I'll ever seen; a serious Film of the Year contender. My lady friend was in tears at the end of it and we both just sat stunned through the credits. Dare I say... it's a masterpiece.

Saw Amour the other night at LIFF. It is equal parts beautiful, moving and harrowing. It is exactly how you would imagine a Michael Haneke romance to be. It is extremely emotional and romantic, but NOT in a heartwarming way. Kermode is correct when he says it is "a difficult watch". I found it incredibly hard to sleep that night, and the last 20 minutes will stay with me forever.

It is a hard watch...but a rewarding one. Didn't grasp the subtext well on first viewing. The second viewing gave me more context and perspective on the theme. Emmanuelle Riva's performance will haunt you long after the credits roll.

Amour is such a well acted and honestly heart breaking, though touching portrayal of love in it's purest form, no matter what trials one has to go through for their partner it will be done. Great movie indeed, honest and difficult to watch, but so much better for tackling a difficult subject head on. Nothing less than brilliant.

Excellent review. Long after I saw the film, I owned a care company, and I have seen couples this dedicated to each other. Very human and brave. And the film lacks sentimentality, so you get the full force of it.

The only reason I watched this plot summary for more than 3 minutes because I mistook Kermode for Harry Enfield. Exceptional film which is done a disservice by Kermode's overly elaborate "review"
