Basque culture is alive and well in California! See what went on at the 2019 Kern County Basque Club festival in Bakersfield, California. With visiting handball players and musicians from the Basque Country, as well as Basque American dancers, musicians, and bertsolaris, it was a weekend full of activities. My mom's side is from the Béarn, the region just east of the Basque Country in the Pyrenees

@@HellaBasque That is interesting because the Gascons(although speaking an Occitan language) are considered ethnically Basque. Even the name Gascon comes from the Latin word foe Basque people. The Basque influence in the Gascon language also shows in words where the "f" was replaced with an "h"(Old Basque did not have the phonetic "f"). That same Basque influence happened with Spanish as well(fogar=hogar, folga=huelga, forno=horno, etc.).
