A tear in my eye and shiver up my spine. Thanks Dad for all the memories.

Michael Carney I need to find out if my mother's side of the family (Carney as well) is from this island, and I need help. My great great great grandpa Carney came to Perry County Ohio in 1803. My Grandpa Carney looks so much like this Mike Carney.... it's crazy. I know per Mike's book there were 2 Carney clans on the island. I need help tracing my ancestry to know where in Ireland we came from. I've been saving for 12 years now for the trip, but I need someone to take my family tree back further, but need help with this. My Uncle Lester Carney looks even more like Mr Carney....scary really. He was born 1901. Anyone able to help me? I tried to reach Mr Carney before his passing, but was unsuccessful.

@@michaelcarney1843 I'm just back from a family holiday to Kerry, and we stayed 2 nights on An Blascáod mór. A magical trip, we even had a heatwave, temps in the early 30's! I stayed with my wife and 10yo Son in Petes Tom Ó Cearnaigh's house. Bhí sé go hálainn an sin, Fan slán a Micháel.

OOOhhh, tears in my eyes too. I visited the Blasket in June of 2011, and it has gripped me ever since. I sort of can feel the loneliness Mike is talking about, even if I never lived on the Island and knew none of the people. It's fabulous that he could come over and see his youth environment again. Lovely movie...

How wonderful, that after decades of living in the US he has kept his Irish accent. Some go to the US for a week to visit Disneyworld and come back sounding like a local. I first caught a glimpse of the Blasket Islands in Ryans Daughter and have visited them. It was a haunting visit, stunning peaceful views. It has become one of my favourite places to visit. People should read the books written by islanders. They lived rough and tough lives.
