Today I am sharing how we have transformed our concrete patio. It's a really easy solution to transforming something that might look quite ugly into something that looks really expensive and luxurious.

I too have painted and stenciled my concrete patio. A word to the wise. If you are painting on raw concrete - concrete that has never been painted before, you must etch the concrete first, with an acid solution, to prep the concrete so that your paint will stick. U went through a lit if time and expense, to paint a large concrete patio, only to have it peel in the first winter! Now I am repainting it, after power washing all of the previous paint off, etched it, painted it, stenciled it, and you must put a sealer on top. For me it was a lot of work, but it really defines an outdoor space.

It looks amazing but don't forget to put a sealer, that stops it from fading, you have to have the patio spotless and bone dry before you put the sealer, good luck

3 words i can think of. Wow wow wow. Really like the finished look. Well worth the effort i bet and has given the garden a lovely focal point. Thanks for an amazing tutorial. Given me lots of inspiration for ideas in the garden.

That look fabulous! The darker color on the edges looks much better than the light grey did as it is a better transition into the green grass. I want to do this but where I live I have to pressure wash my concrete regularly due to large oak trees that make a mess and I don't think paint would hold up. :(

I love it,I'm doing mine today. I came across a post two weeks back of a lady who did her garden for £100 and was fascinated. Now I'm hooked on doing mine but the weather is not on my side but today I'm determined come rain or shine. I've just started painting my patio and have the same trouble as you, as the grey is very light. had white for the stenciling but I think I'll do same as you. outstanding job

This is really inspirational! Could you tell me how it fares in wet weather? For example has the painted surface made any difference to surface water? Is it at all slippery when wet?

It’s absolutely perfect in all weather.. it’s been painted for about 6months now and still looks as good as new :) not slippery at all aswel :) xxx

I didn’t seal it but lots of people say if you do it will last longer.. but I would say there is no rush, but I probably would seal it just to make it last as long as possible :) xxx

The paint is still looking great a year down the line.. you can also paint over it with a sealant.. I didn't and it still looks fab, but it is a good idea just for it to last even longer :) xxx

I didn't put a seal on and a year on its still looking fab.. but, I think if you have some then put some on.. our colour hasn't faded one bit though over the time xxx

Hi I bought Santex masonry paint but some people say it’s a no no for patio area. Can I ask if you used a primer or sealer. I’ve bought 10Lts don’t want to waste it. Love your comments.thank you.

I got the Valspa masonary paint and it’s brilliant.. 4 months in and it’s still perfect :) I didn’t use any sealant either, just the paint and it’s stayed on so well :) xxx

Iv just bought a stencil to do this but was told by diy shop that i have to prime it first so paint doesnt peel of dud u prime urs first plz. ?

Oh no I didn’t prime mine and it’s stayed on perfectly :) it will probably last longer if you do prime it, but will works really well without primer :) xxx
