I think it’s important for kids to have down time & chill out as much as keep them busy. If they are at school all day, have clubs, do homework, help around house then no harm letting them use their devices & switch off some nights. Parents put too much pressure on themselves that their kids always need to be busy. They need to relax too

I know this is so very true.. we all need our downtime and I need to remember that the kids do too and so if they want to play on devices for a bit then that is fine :) xxx

Hi Kerry, I don’t normally comment but this is subject dear to my heart too. I have a 12 year old boy and you do worry whether you’re doing the right thing. He has clubs 3 evenings per week, 2 straight after school. He has a couple of small chores he has to do when he gets home which are to empty his bag and put out the recycling but then I just let him chill and do what he wants until teatime. He either plays basketball on the patio or kicks a ball about with friends from our street on the field behind the house. Some days he’s more tired and he’ll just watch KZbin (we eat early 5pm so not long for him to entertain himself). Occasionally he’ll go on the PlayStation. After tea he’ll do homework, school reading and have a shower then just do what he likes until 8.30pm when we all sit and watch something together for an hour until he goes to bed. I honestly think by allowing him to go on his phone or PlayStation when he likes has caused him to self regulate. He knows now when he’s been on enough and takes himself off outside for some air and shoots some hoops. I am actually amazed at what he watches on KZbin and how much he learns from it. He’s currently obsessed with American bbq videos 😂 and should now be an expert at cooking steak! His history and geography knowledge is fantastic and most of that came from KZbin. They don’t always chose to watch rubbish when given the freedom of time to explore new videos. I limit the PlayStation a bit because I know he can get wound up on there though. We have an agreement that he’s free to use his phone whenever as long as he isn’t on any social media at all which he seems fine about. Im sure restrictions make kids want the thing even more. It’s not always our job to amuse them but I do think a period of quality family time together in the evening is also very important as like you say that’s when they tend to open up about things. We usually try and watch something which will spark a good conversation between us all. Anyway sorry for long comment and many thanks for the great videos xx

@@nicolagoodall5428 oh this was a really great comment to read as your evenings sound very similar to ours.. I agree.. giving them time to chill and make their own decisions on when is enough time to be watching tv or on devices is really good for them. Our boys also take themselves into the garden when they have been watching tv for enough time and ours also watch some really interesting stuff on KZbin too.. I think I need to worry less and just let them be more once everything they need to do is done!! Thanks for this.. it’s been really reassuring 🥰

My son is 14 and he's so tired after school that he sleeps for 2 hours! My children aren't into after school clubs so we don't have an overly busy social life but I'm happy for them to relax after school on their devices xx

I think it definitely depends on the children, Jamie gets much more tired than Rory does, so he doesn't do as many clubs and then your right, they need some down time after a busy day at school xxx

It's OK for kids to do nothing Kerry. Just don't stress it. Let them watch TV, go on devices or do absolutely nothing. As an adult, I like to do bugger all sometimes lol, kids are no different. I love your videos and thanks for letting us see your lovely family xx

I do not have kids but just wanted to say that some of my favourite memories from when I was younger was to watch films or tv shows with my youger sister and we still talk about these and rewatch them together sometimes. I think screens are not all bad, I've had so many great time singing and dancing watching tv and laughing with my sister!

Its definitely good for them to come home and chill, go on devices, watch TV or just relax. Your boys are super busy and active, so honestly let them be. Like you I used to have mum guilt all the time if my kids weren't busy doing fun stuff, but I've learnt that letting them entertain themselves is ok too x

Hey Kerry, hope you’re well. I’m happy, good and well thank you good evening love this Weekday evening routine video. So motivated and happy I enjoyed this weekday evening routine. I love having such wonderful evenings because I can enjoy spend time with my family and doing things myself at home like drinking a cup of tea having desserts chocolates and biscuits listening to music and singing songs on Spotify app watching videos from KZbin and just having time to myself everyday of the week. Sometimes I try to do a little bit of work in the evenings just to catch up with work and everything in the evenings having relaxed evenings at home being productive, happy and motivated in my week. I absolutely need to start working on my laptop a lot more in the evenings or during the day if I have time to do some things! The toad in the hole with sweet potato mash sounds good and delicious! Listening to podcasts about motivation and positivity is amazing on Spotify because you can take in and learn some different things about how you can improve motivation and mindset through the week. The podcast that I love is the everyday positivity! 😊♥️😁🥰☀️. I love using my Dyson vacuum so much for speed cleans in my home. Occasionally I put in my AirPods into my ears and open up some music or a cleaning motivation videos. I find cleaning so relaxing and helps me get through my anxiety! I really love taking showers or baths and do my skincare routine by using my ultimate favourite product which is the Lancôme pump face wash cream too. I really can’t wait for the warmer weathers, spring to come in too! 😊🌷🥰🇹🇷💛♥️💕😍😁☀️🌺🎈🏖️❤️🦋🎶✨🎉🌸🏝️🐣. I look at my phone, do some dancing, working on my laptop spend time with my family too. Going out as well! Things which you can do with your kids are do some yoga exercises, go on a walk, make a gratitude list, dance, jigsaw puzzles, make vision boards, plan on what you’re going to do in the evenings, meditate, write down goals or things that make you happy, learn new habits and life skills too. So for me I learnt on how to improve my motivation and mindset. Watch bbc Iplayer CBeebies. Something special is happy one to watch because it’s really entertaining and full of laughter. 😊♥️🐣🌸🎉💛🌷☀️❤️🦋🥰🇹🇷🏝️😁😍🌺✨🎈🎊🎶💕🏖️🪷🤩. I love something special so much! It can be so hard and tricky to keep your family and kids happy. Also I find myself really tricky to make me more happy and positive too! As a family we used to have one night in the week that we called “black out” night no electronic devices. Them nights we would play board games. I think children have a good understanding of games and thing’s we used to do in the past before devices. My boys are 21 and 15 now and still love a board game when we are all home together. Xx

None club days mine are just on the tv/ps5/switch/computer and are drawing at the same time. After dinner if there time out might be a family game or if not stories/bed, Fridays are our only days when are all free so often movie night.

I think everyone needs downtime including kids but I feel exactly the same about devices and my son. The other day we were at the library and my son found jigsaws (500 or 1000 pieces) that you can borrow from the library for free. I was really surprised how much we have enjoyed doing these as a family! We have it ongoing one down the end of the dining table. Really calming and just something completely different. Definitely worth a try! Once one is out people can’t help themselves but do some, even when friends are visiting 😂

Thanks for raising this my biggest cause of arguments with my 12 year old is his screen time. I say no screens after tea but I find this rule is slipping as he sneaks off when I’m clearing up. I try to Encourage Lego etc in the evenings before shower time More vids on non screen activities would be great 😊

We do homework, chores (3 each) then Lego, art and crafts, outside play whether it is cold or not. Then if no evening activities early shower and then device once in pjs. One of them (I’ve 4) helps with dinner most nights. Sometimes and some days tho it’s early device and if they are tired I just roll with it. Just not every day.

That sounds a lot like how we work it too.. it can be so much harder in winter.. in the summer all our boys want to do is be outside which makes me so happy :) xxx

Jamie is so sweet. It’s normal to worry about them. Especially when going to secondary school. Bibi and Tina looks good. Isabelle should like it. She’s 8. I always worry about her and what she’s watching etc. Isabelle goes on her iPad when she gets home. I feel bad, but it’s hard sometimes. I wouldn’t worry hun. I think we can worry a lot and overthink everything. I ❤sweet potato mash. I love sweet potato in any form. I love 💗 watching Netflix in an evening. It’s different on the weekend as will have drinks etc lol 😂. Xxxxxx

Hi Kerry, card games are always a hit, as is something as simple as Snakes and Ladders. The point is you are enjoying time together as a family. As the boys get older, it is something they will always remember.

Before dinner I let them just play or if they homework we will do that. sometimes I will play some card games etc. after dinner they have an hr screen time after dinner and I just tidy kitchen have 20 mins chill time in the kitchen. Then after that it’s time for my sons medicine that he has daily and then reading and then my youngest has 30-40 mins reading time before bed and my eldest is 11 he goes up at 7.30 but reads listens to his audiable book before bed and he goes to bed at 8.30 x

My daughter is exhausted after school and school Clubs, I just let her have dinner do her homework and 30mm ms of reading and once she’s done she can watch tv , draw , the little ones are fine with playing Lego and other stuff , unfortunately we are in the era of gadgets now so taking it away from them will just result in them sneaking around using it …You just have to find a balance

But not sure, as so many new crossed breeds these days,many look alike. One of our sons have a cocker poo, it’s black, but very possessive, he gets really feisty if he wants something and you take it away. My granddaughter knows someone else who had one from same litter, it’s just the same. We have learnt it’s the poodle in them. Shame as he is a lovely looking dog , but his ways spoil him. Our other son has a cocker and that’s very gentle. We had a springer also very gentle. Ah well I think your dog always looks so happy.
