Please turn off "Stable Volume" in the video playback setting (the first menu item after clicking the gear icon) as for some reason, this new KZbin playback feature made the video much noisier than usual.

Thank you so much for this thorough review! I was just to buy a power supply but ordering online can be like buying a pig in a poke, this solves my problem!

VERY GOOD REVIEW KERRY.

Another excellent review. You measure the important stuff. I like that you keep the UT61e+ around. I always appreciate the speed and accuracy of mine.

electrophoresis supplies are nice for hv experiments, they can go to 3kV. good for tube amp projects but need to be loaded by a few meg resistor to even turn on and immediately shut off when theres a abnormality like current going to ground.

does it exceed the 2A if i use a low voltage but keeping the same power like for example 80V 4A or 40v 8A ?
@KerryWongBlog4 ай бұрын
No, the highest current setting you can set is 2.2A regardless of the voltage.

Is this supply limited to 2A across all voltages or will it allow more current at lower voltages to achieve the 300W output?
@paulcohen1555 Жыл бұрын
I would like you to test the power supply with a full short circuit on the output at full current and increasing voltage. Will it survive?
@tullgutten Жыл бұрын
To give it a better test to find its real current and voltage wave form you need a resistive load, not a digital electronic load. Eevblog also found out this the hard way where both instruments where fighting each other making a horrible ripple, but when eliminating the electronic load it was MUCH better
@KerryWongBlog Жыл бұрын
I was debating that. In my last OWON PS test I used a pure resistive load, but I didn't have anything suitable for the voltage range I was testing with this power supply.

@@KerryWongBlog space heater, any ac heater that is resistive works just the same at DC 😉

I am planning to purchase this to test flyback converters, which later-on, will be run on mains. What is your purpose of purchasing this HV power supply?
@jspencerg Жыл бұрын
You should dig out the electronic load you built, which had a larger power capacity.
@paulperano9236 Жыл бұрын
So, how can you reduce the noise/ripple ?
@stevenbliss9894 ай бұрын
Thank you for this teardown. I am surprised at how crappy this PSU is, in spite of it's nice presentation. I expect some noise but 1-2% WOW!, plus the instability in CC mode etc.
@xenoxaos1 Жыл бұрын
Definitely would be nice to have the 160v isolated so you can inject it into a psu cap. Also 160ish is the peak output of 120v mains.
@paulcohen1555 Жыл бұрын
Seems that the power supply is almost useless for electronics usage. Maybe it's usable for electro-mechanical work. I hoped that it would have a linear final stage to clean the switching noise.

I’m just looking for a higher voltage when anodizing titanium, so this should work fine. I particularly like the ability to recall memory and change the output digitally without trying to adjust finicky potentiometers.

Resistiv load!!!! Electric load fals....output on...(load on)...OHM load!!!

That is so annoying, I assumed the knobs were ten turn or similar, not this select a digit GARBAGE!!!!!!!!! I was going to get this supply, but NO WAY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@KerryWongBlog4 ай бұрын
To be fair, most of the PS nowadays are using encoders for voltage/current adjustment and even on some lab grade PS like the UNI-T one I just reviewed recently it uses a similar design.
@stevenbliss9894 ай бұрын
@@KerryWongBlog That is fine, but to have several level acceleration the one knob can do even much better than a ten turn pot. I have several PSU in which I replaced all the pots with FIVE turn (hard to get), and they are almost ideal, ten turn is too much. A software change in the WANPTEK APS1602H with acceleration knob would be GREAT! Very carp design like as you say most intefaces use these days, even expensive brands like Tektronix. I HATE THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are CUMBERSOME to use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
