Emerson was actually very clever with this budget release collaberation with kershaw. It will give people the feel of an emerson but not to the same levels or steels so it will make many want to save and try the original

Absolutely, I always thought of the wave as a gimmick and figured the deployment disc would be hard to use until I got my ZT Emerson. An Emerson cqc-15 is on my must have list now after having tried the features.

Beware of the Benchmade griptilian one of the most popular knifes. On light batoning which should never be done, the lock broke multiple times. If you’re getting just because you want a Benchmade that’s not a good idea bro. They suck. Look at cold steel

Aaron Great Review, I love my cqc-6k, it's the right size for EDC, has good ergo and an awesome looking blade, the two tone finish looks very classy. When I got my 6k a coulpe of weeks ago it was very stiff opening, it would only open easily when I pushed in just the right spot. But after playing with it for a week or so it flies open now. Outstanding design and cool factor.

Will you do a review on the cqc-8k? I know it's the ugly duckling of the line but it fills my hand nicely and locks my hand in place better than the 6k.

I do like the looks of Emerson knives, as it is purposefully designed, and distinctly tactical. I do not however care for the price. Lots of people love Emerson knives, being US made and one of the very few production martial blades available. Then there are the other folks that criticize the brand for using sub supersteel at the price, and offering poor fit and finish, and inconsistent operation to put it nicely. I don't like that they have downgraded to only 1 titanium liner, and I agree that 154CM is not impressive at the price point. I also have seen examples with apparent tooling marks and almost no decent to speak of. These Kershaw collaborations seem like the move, but which to go with. I like a medium size, but there seem to be several. Any thoughts? Can anyone speak on how these compare to the full Emerson folders out there? Thanks!

Gideon, I'm sure you get this question a lot BUT... If you could only choose one cutting tool to survive anywhere in the world with, what would it be? Note: if you choose some sort of knife or machete then what blade length?
@gideonstactical
@gideonstactical 10 жыл бұрын
***** If you what my 2nd anniversary video, you will see it is the ESEE6 hands down. It is not to big and not to small. For blade length I would say any fully exposed tang, High Carbon Steel knife, that is between 6-8inches. Smaller and it can't span a lot of wood, and bigger you can't do fine cutting well.

i moved my clip to left side with the G10 so it can wave openforward (reverse overhand). the drawback is that it it came out of detent when my phone hit the wave and when i stuck my hand in my pocket it got me at the base of my pinky. pretty good cut. :/

Seems to be it would be better if the Black scales were on the side that was visible while riding in your pocket, instead of having the silver/SS side facing out drawing attention to you. In a city environment, this could be a major issue. For $30 seems like a great value.
@T4uri
@T4uri 9 жыл бұрын
The silver side is facing outwards so it would be easier to pull it out, it is more slippery.
@centermass3454
@centermass3454 9 жыл бұрын
Understood. Perhaps the slippery side should have been black instead of silver. Those of us in the City need to remain low profile, or have problems with the Law. I have an Emerson Commander with the Black scales on both sides since 2006, no issues deploying it, grip is superior to the CQC-6K.

I just got mine in D2 from BladeHq. What a tank! So well made and beefy. Perfect centering and nice detail touches. It reminds me of my RAT-1, which was the other hard use D2 knife I was considering. I like the flat grind on the RAT better and the action is snappier, but the drop point blade shape and size of the CQC 6 is perfect and the combination of stonewash on the hollow grind and polish under the swedge is visually appealing. Glad I picked this up, it is really well made. I can flick it open, but it is clear this knife is purpose built and not a fidget toy. I’m still getting the RAT-1 in D2. It is more a survival knife than tactical and still a classic. I have one in AUS-8.

Try adjusting the pivot screw on the handle, it should be a larger flathead screw close to where the blade meets the handle. Look into thread-lock liquid for knives on KZbin, a user named cutlerylover has a video on it. Good luck.

The kershaw knockout would be my 2 cents. I jimped the thumbgroove with my die grinder, and put skateboard tape on the clip, and opposing handle, and I have as much traction as I have on my recon 1, contego, paramilitary 2, ect, for a fraction of the cost.

This might be a little late for you, but I think between the Rat 1 and the Spyderco Tenacious would give you the absolute best bang for your buck! I have done an entire day's labor with the Rat 1 and it absolutely held up with no blade play. Likewise, I have done some damage with the Tenacious as well and saw no need to worry! I help a plumber on my days off and I have to do some blade-breaking stuff regularly.

On the topic of self defense/tactical blades I was wondering if you could do a review on the Shadow Tech CTK Karambit? It seems like it would only be good for tactical purposes but I wanted your thoughts on it especially the hook on the back of the blade. I would like to see if the hook would be a good seatbelt or rope cutter. Unfortunately this doesn't seem like a blade you would normally review due to its style as a purely tactical blade but I haven't found reviews on it anywhere else and was hoping you could help.
@gideonstactical
@gideonstactical 10 жыл бұрын
Devin Kent You are right Devin. I like Shadow Tech and we will be reviewing more of their stuff in coming months and years, but a Karambit style blade is not what I usually look for or review. If I happen to get my hands on one I will let you know, but I have no plans at this time to review it. Sorry, I couldn't be more help. ST makes good stuff so if you if you like that style of blade go for it and I don't think you will be disappointed.

Don't buy this shit. Its bad. The tang of the blade is way to pronounced and scrapes on the lockbar and literally squeaks, I took mine part, oiled it, adjusted the pivot and everything and the problem persisted. Threw it to my friend and now its a prybar and throwaway knife. Buy a RAT 1 or a Kershaw Skyline.

I've had very good luck with 8cr13 in the past. I've found it chips easier than Cold Steel and SOG's AUS8, but it seems to take a finer edge. I carried a Cold Steel AK47 for a long time, but I still go back to my cheap Spyderco Tenacious as often as not. Neither are really super expensive knives, but you can get really good use out of them. 8cr13 can take a pretty great edge and is really easy to resharpen.

I feel like every knife review and feel test is not complete without at least a few no spin throws into any type of Target, because ,if the screws and hardware holding the knife together cannot hold up to that or the tip of the blade cannot hold up to that for a few throws then you know you have some serious weak points!
