Battle of saragarhi
@waterbeauty859 ай бұрын
The real life Sepoy Gurmukh Singh, seeing that he was the last Sikh soldier still alive at Saragarhi, sent a final heliograph signal to Fort Lockhart requesting permission to take up his rifle and join the fight. Receiving the reply "Permission granted," he packed his heliograph neatly into its leather case and took position opposite the entrance to the signal tower. According to Afghan witnesses, the narrow entrance prevented Gurmukh's attackers from swarming him all at once, and he was able to kill about 20 before it was decided that, rather than wasting so many lives trying to kill just one man, the tower would be set on fire to eliminate the stubborn Sikh. As the tower burned, Gurmukh was heard inside shouting the Sikh battle cry "Bole So Nihal! Sat Sri Akal!" over and over until he succumbed to the smoke and flames.

I always saw the action of the kid killing Ishwar Singh as a message about how this hatred is bred so young, and how dangerous it is. No one is born hating, it is created and nurtured by elements. How despite being a child, he was still embroiled in that war, still killing someone who didn't kill him, because that's what he's been taught.

Andrew there was no Pakistan when this happened. As they mentioned it was a conflict between Biritish and Afganistani people. India always faced attacks from Muslim nations or tribes even before Brits came to India. Now you can understand why Pakistan was formed as all the Mughals, Persians or Afganistani tribes came from the same location to capture India. If you see the location of India , Pakistan and Afganistan and Persia(Iran) on the map you will understand. And actually Mughals ruled for more than 200 years and then Britishers too ruled India for atleast 200 years. I feel a large part of North India is still facing identity crisis. Mughals destroyed North India and British changed it.

I don’t support separation at all, but please don’t judge and say that they’ve been manipulated, people choose different ways in adversities. When you get discriminated in your family against your siblings, some people would try to change the difficult situation while others would choose to leave the family. I’m not saying it’s right but I’m saying it’s not that white and black. And we need to be open minded and try to understand why sikhs are asking what they’re asking and how can we help them.
@percentbigfoot9 ай бұрын
@@JaahnaviSfirst of all the idea that you could leave your family is to be debated upon? Also discrimination is a strong word that you have used. Yes problems can be discussed, all family members have their own set of unique problems but that doesn't mean you abandon the very thing you fought for. Also the K-stan issue is a political gimmick too, if K-Stan were truly about the original land of Sikhs, then they would ensure that PK-Stani Punjab was also in the picture while asking for the land and separation. No protesters in Canada are asking for that side of Punjab, it's because the funding is coming from there. You don't bite the hand that feeds you isn't it. Lastly, if everyone started demanding separation because of differences, we would go back to the era of Kingdoms and not Countries.

@@abhipannu2917 Congress is in the dirt. And people blame congress for 84 but it's not as simple a case that it can be termed as B&W. Yes Indira did wrong and had to suffer what was coming for her but there is this other side to it as well which involves a criminal hiding in Golden temple. Was the operation blue star needed or the only way perhaps not. But she made that call and the rest is history. India is as much of Sikhs as of other communities so today's sikhs cant take that incident to form a argument of a separate land.

I recommend the TV/web series "21 Sarfarosh - Saragarhi 1897" which tells the story of the Sikhs who defended Saragarhi. It has 65 episodes, but almost all of them are less than 25 minutes. Those the series suffers from a limited budget for effects and locations resulting in some very obvious green screen and very obvious miniatures, it has a great story which sets up the tensions and hostilities leading to the battle and fully develops the characters to help you understand their motivations and get you deeply emotionally invested in them, and except for a few awkwardly delivered English lines by some of the British characters, the acting is excellent. The series even features a young Captain Winston Churchill as a supporting character.
