One funny thing about the I Got a Boy teaser: when the teaser was first released, Sunny's hat actually had writing on it: "Motherfuc*er". Apparently no one who spoke English at SM noticed because it was broadcast without censorship. Eventually they realized what might be an issue and digitally blacked out the word. Still I'm surprised that Jessica or Tiffany didn't tell them right as soon as they saw this mv.

If I'm not mistaken, they already explained that Mr.Mr doesn't have scenes of the girls wearing suits, but there was a problem with the production team that meant the girls needed to reshoot the entire mv and their comeback was postponed in this era. they only had a short time because the comeback had already been announced, so when filming they just wore whatever they had at that time (not the same clothes as the first mv).

Fun fact: Hoot was a surprise comeback that no one expect. Because back then, late 2010, SNSD was in Japan promoting the Japanese version of Gee, there was no sign at all that SNSD would make another Korean comeback, especially earlier that year they already released two singles, Oh! and Run Devil Run, as well as their 2nd studio album and its repackage. Then, all of the sudden, teasers for Hoot were released and everyone SHOOK.

A man in Hoot video is Siwon, member of Super Junior, SNSD's labelmate. Also, orginally Dancing Queen was gonna be the title track for SNSD's 2nd studio album, set to released in November 2008. But SM decided to change the plan to the first mini album with Gee was selected as title track instead. Gee's fashion concept, colourful skinny jeans, was originally for Dancing Queen, you can see that the girls with white shirt and blue denim is on the album cover of Gee.

Yes, Duffy's Mercy was a huge hit and nominated for a Grammy so SM wisely shelved it for Gee and the rest is history. The girls were reportedly mortified when they learned SM was going to release the video of their teenage selves, filmed in late 2008, just before I Got A Boy at the end of 2012 when they were in their early 20's.

To give a context, Dancing Queen was supposed to be the one released instead of Gee back in late 2008 but changed plans, hence the comeback getting delayed. They released Gee instead in January 2009. So that Dancing Queen mv was really from 2008. That's really their 2008 selves lmao

SM actually bought the rights from the composer before Duffy released her version (she wrote many of the English lyrics.) There's some dispute, but most accounts say that when SM saw how successful Duffy's version was, they decided to hold off on it. (There's also some rule that a songwriter can decide who gets to record it first and Steve Booker (the composer) decided to let Duffy record it first. In either case, SNSD smartly went with Gee - and the rest is Kpop history.

Well - they put out almost 80 mvs (including the ones for CFs) - that's a huge amount of support - I don't know that any other group has anywhere near that many. What makes SNSD iconic than they already are is that every single one of them have something going on career wise - acting, personal business, variety shows, musicals. Aside from that, SNSD really explored a lot of genres which makes their discography on another level. Their Japanese discography are on another level too along Kara and Shinee like they didn’t just stay in an audience friendly pop sound like the current gen do. Lastly, their vocalists are all amazing in their own leagues and it’s not just taeyeon. Tiffany, Jessica, Seohyun, Sunny and even dancers like Yuri and Sooyoung can pass as lead vocals.

The amazing thing is that Girl's Generation is even better live. Songs like "I Got a Boy," which was controversial when released, really comes alive when they do it live. I was not a big fan of the song when it first came out, but after watching the live stages, it became one of my favorites. Where GG really shines is singing ballads, which you haven't gotten too yet. Both Korean and Japanese ones are spectacular, especially when they sing live. Girl's Generation is the gold standard of Kpop vocals. There has never been, nor will there probably ever be a group this good ever again. Their harmonization is unmatched. My only regret is I did not get to see them live, and they were in their prime before social media took off.

The guy in the 'Hoot' MV is Super Junior's Siwon, which makes both of you technically correct in identifying him as part of a band and an actor. As others have mentioned, 'Dancing Queen' was initially intended to be the title track instead of 'Gee', resulting in similar outfits and an overall feel since it was filmed in 2008. Many were surprised to see a plethora of MV from the past when it came out as a pre-release song before 'I Got A Boy'. Its live performance is a must watch for a vocal fest, the cute choreography is just an add on to the visual experience. 'Mr. Mr.' MV appeared to be incoherent because the "original" version was corrupted, causing for a delayed comeback. This chaotic moment in K-pop led other artists to postpone their comebacks as well to avoid competing against SNSD. The whole album leaked and everyone I knew who managed to listen to it really liked the B-side 'Back Hug' which I also recommend for you guys to have a listen.

The Mr. Mr. comeback performances are a MUST SEE and put the video to shame. I never got the song via the translated lyrics till I heard the original English demo last year and then it finally made sense. They didn't drastically alter the original meaning, it's just clearer in English. I got to see them perform this in the "suit dresses" at KCON LA in 2014, but sadly Sooyoung was in Korea for a drama shoot.

People have probably commented about this already but I saw one comment that missed a big part: Dancing Queen was meant to be SNSD’s release in 2008, because Mercy had hit it big in the UK (and maybe the US?) and SM wasn’t expecting it to be big in Korea too so recorded it. Mercy did in fact chart well in Korea (to the point where even a few years ago I could hear it playing in stores in videos) so SNSD had to hold it and SM held off an SNSD comeback until 2009 and reused certain parts for Gee which would go on to become one of THE songs in kpop. Gee skyrocketed SNSD to huge amounts of fame and a massive legacy. 2007 and 2008 were a rough year for SNSD as they debuted not long after Wonder Girls and were under the same label as Super Junior. ELFs and other boy group fans were mad SNSD had been around their faves, and organised a “black ocean” at the 2008 Dream concert. No one shone their lightsticks. So to go from being ostracised to being the top girl group of 2nd gen and having a debut song represented routinely by other girl groups and used in protests is insane to me. I’m around your age and have been a fan of them since I was a teen but in recent years haven’t listened much. These videos are definitely going to have me making a huge playlist to listen to.

fun "insider" fact about the mr. mr mv: its files were corrupted like right before it was supposed to come out! other sones please feel free to fill in any details i missed or fact check, but i'm pretty solid on this. a lot of reshoots had to happen, a majority of the choreo footage was just gone, which then led to the final product being very different from snsd and sm's usual style. there's even a conspiracy that a rival company (at the time i think yg (2ne1's company) got most of the blame) tried to sabotage the comeback.

Fun facts: 1. SNSD was suppose to comeback in 2008/2009 with Dancing Queen and even the MV was filmed but due to copyright issues, SM replaced the comeback with Gee(the group were having a hard time at that point and it was like a fate that Gee was release instead which helped their group popularity to blew up). They released Dancing Queen afterwards in 2012. 2. MrMr initial MV was damaged right before their comeback, so what we saw was a make up/retake of the MV. Definitely recommend you to watch their live performance for MrMr ! 3. As for Hoot, it was a surprise comeback that fans didnt expect and the guy in Hoot was Super junior's Siwon😊

For example, the song "Dreams come true" by S.E.S from 1998 was also a "remake", but nobody in Asia knew the "original" which had been released shortly before.

Dancing Queen supposed to be released in 2008 as a title track but due to last minute copyright issues, the song was unable to be released. "Gee" was eventually chosen to replace the song. That's why the outfits are so similar/same with Gee outfits. About Mr.Mr mv, the original Mr Mr MV file got corrupted and it's all SM's fault. Girls re-shoot some scenes and their comeback got delayed. You guys will be shocked to see Mr.Mr's mv teasers because girls filmed theirselves and posted it. Fun fact about the MVs: -Dancing Queen reminded you of Gee because they used the same outfits. They were supposed to release DQ as their single but Mercy by Duffy which is the same song (melody, arrangement) became a hit which is why they decided to shelf this and that's where Gee was born. Needless to say, their career would have been different because Gee was so big it even helped Korea's economy during 2008 recession. They released this years later as a pre single to I Got A Boy which also became an iconic hit. Dancing Queen's impact?? -They feel like a tall group because they're one of few girl groups who perform in heels. Although their dances may be simpler in comparison to today's Kpop, exclusively dancing in heels is something else. -Mr Mr has a storyline but I the file got corrupted a day before the release date which is why they had to assemble something in short notice if I'm not mistaken.

the guy in Hoot is SIWON the leader of Super Junior, another legendary boy group of SM. they were (and still are pretty HUGE in Asia and some parts of USA and latinoamerica) 18 years of career, and same relevant as SNSD was in the middles 2000s, so Super Junior and SNSD paved the way to the next bgs and ggs of kpop

I think they look so tall cuz they have long ass legs to torso proportions. And also the taller girls do a good job of making it look like they’re all the same height when they’re dancing, so unless you watch them on variety you don’t realize how short sunny and taeyeon are Plus they have genie where the concept is just legs for days so I think they have that image 😂
