Best video on the Kessils I have seen. I have struggled trying to get a good lighting mix. Nice job.

rob Burton thanks I too had struggled at first with them as well, so when I got them pretty dialed in I figured I'd share my info and success with the rest of the world!

Awesome reef. I have a A160 over my 14g SPS nano and I'm just using a wall timer for now to turn the light on and off but I hope to have a kessil controller soon.
@TheBondsJamesBonds6 жыл бұрын
Turtle's Reef does this allow you to have just the blues on? Or do you need to the controller to do anything but turn it on and off?

what kind of camera do you use? and what settings is the kessil at when you record your videos? thanks for any help 👍👍
@CollaGoUnLTD7 жыл бұрын
+Billy Pipes I shoot with a Sony A6000 Mirrorless with the kit lens on manual mode. Settings change a lot due to time of day and where we are in the light cycle as well as my tank might get more room light than yours etc. too many variables so i can't really give you definitive settings.

Hey bro, Nice video ... you have a Beautiful Aquarium ! .. I have a 210 Gallon aquarium, same setup like yours (almost lol) I Have the kessil spectral controller and I was trying to program it close to what you have but I can't figure it out (spectral you have 6 edit channels) how would you input it if you just had a Spectral Controller ?... I have been a light schedule for like 9 months (let me know if you want to know)... sorry for the dam Novel LOL...

Thanks for the video! Have you added this to the "Scheme" feature in Apex? Totally lazy of me to ask right??? Thanks again for the video!
@CollaGoUnLTD7 жыл бұрын
+Todd Ruxer No I have not, that would be making it way too easy for everyone to download my settings!! Jk I will see what I can do about that! Lol

Great video. love my kessils as well. what is the height of the light above the water? thanks
@CollaGoUnLTD8 жыл бұрын
Kurt Scoville they are 6" above the water but I may raise them up to 8" to see if I can get a little better light spread. I have had great success with them at the current level though.

Hey Sean I new to the reef tank club! I currently have a kessil A360we on my nuvo innovative marine 50 gallon. It is a mixed beef and wanted to know what settings I should be using? Thanks for the help...

Shawn! Does this light have violet spectrum, so corals glow?
@CollaGoUnLTD8 жыл бұрын
+Revulsion OK yes the kessils utilize a UV spectrum and from around 15k to full actinic corals glow like crazy!

How high is your Kessil from the top of the water?
@CollaGoUnLTD7 жыл бұрын
+Yoshukai Tony they are about 8 inches off the water
@Yoshukaitony7 жыл бұрын
Shawn Collazo I’m guessing your tank is 24 inch deep?
@jnava1216 жыл бұрын
BRS does like a 12 inch and 8 inch test off the water with Par Values. Higher up the more spread!

Hi Shawn! Question, do you do any sort of "acclimation mode" when adding new corals to your tank?
@CollaGoUnLTD7 жыл бұрын
+Jason Bianchi great question, I do not have an actual setting setup in apex, but I do acclimate them by starting them on an eggcrate rack halfway down in the aquarium and over a week raid them up to around the level of where I will be placing my them.
@jameschapman61696 жыл бұрын
Hi mate are you still keeping the intensity at 70% I have mine peaking at 90% thinking about dropping it down now?
@CollaGoUnLTD6 жыл бұрын
Yes I have not changed my settings since. I have started a new aquarium as I moved since this video but am using the exact same settings with great results! I will post up an updated video sooner or later. If you do decide to drop your intensity down, I’d suggest doing it gradually at around 1-3% weekly until you get to your desired level.

Thanks Shawn, nice presentation. I am old school and use MH or T5 for the past 25 years, however a year ago bought some 360 w-e's in an effort to modernize and combine T5/kessil. I admit , when I attempt to use more kessil than T5 during the photoperiod even at low intensity ( I never went over 40%) some corals pale out. Monticaps and green birds-nest are first. Can you tell me your nutrient levels, your preferred salt mix and how long your tank has been growing under kessils please? this info could be helpful to my efforts. Thanks
@CollaGoUnLTD7 жыл бұрын
+Jase Kevens i keep my nutrient levels around the following: cal 440 alk 8-9 mag 1300 minimal phosphates and a little nitrates. I use Reef crystals and have been for the past 12 years in this hobby. Flow consists of 2 MP40's and my return pump is a rio 14hf, skimmer is a eshopps snow cone 125 This specific tank has been under kessils for around 2 years. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!

I have the same setup 3 kessil aw360e connected to varspd1/2 on apex but im having a hard time getting majority white on my kessils during the day time. i uploaded your exact settings already and im still getting weak light during the day it seems to just turn on and off at half intensity and half power, pls help :)
@CollaGoUnLTD7 жыл бұрын
+Cartel Mods my settings aren't made to be super intense, they do stay on the bluer side of the spectrum. If yours are o lay hitting 50% intensity and color though you may have an issue with your lights and it might be worth a call to kessil.

How did you actually set it up. My kessil just go on and off. No ramp
@alexmenchaca49245 жыл бұрын
Kessil lights go from 0% to 10% like he says in the video. So its always going ro be a noticeable off and on. Then the ramp takes over from there. It is unfortunate. But in my opinion nothing is better.
