Here we go with another voice over , since it seems like more people enjoy the explanation while they watch, so I will try to accommodate as much as I can. This female Kestrel was in a very good condition , hit on a rural road and found half frozen. I am slowing down the part of focus, and on this video we are focusing on How to wire the bird, which is basically applied to almost all bird mounts. Hope you enjoy the show.

Thanks for the video Ben. I echo others....the voice over is a great idea and so helpful. Question - does the glue activator slow down the dry time? I've never heard of activator to use with krazy glue or any other super glue for that matter. Looking forward to the grooming voice over and would also like one on your airbrush and finish work on a bird. Thanks from WI!
@ArtofTaxidermy
@ArtofTaxidermy 3 жыл бұрын
Bruce Maatta the activator speeds it’s up, it turns a slow or medium crazy glue into a fast 2-3 second dry time. I will create more videos that covers other parts of the work.

Hi Ben when wiring do you mark where you enter the body,wings and legs, or you just know from experience? Also the wires here in Australia taxidermy supplies are limited the wires are non existent when googling it takes you to the USA. We can get wires in a coil This would be very hard for leg work etc. what’s the alternative? Bite the bullet and post them.
@ArtofTaxidermy
@ArtofTaxidermy 11 ай бұрын
John… none of my wires are coming from taxidermy suppliers.. I buy them from local hardware stores , they come in different size coil and I cut what I need to straighten them with hammer on my bench vice.

One very inportant question: what wire gauge do you use in a bird like that? Too small becames woobly and too strong may break the bones. Mário Ferreira
@ArtofTaxidermy
@ArtofTaxidermy 3 жыл бұрын
Mário Ferreira I use black anield wire, they are soft but strong. I think I used 18 for the legs and 20 for wings and neck. I have to double check though.

You skin a small bird the same as big birds,but very carefully,and very slowly.keep the skin moist,and yet the faster you do it the better it will look.Any time you take too much time,things dry out. Be sure to pick a fresh specimen. I still have 50 to 100 small birds to do, but do remember the need for permits.

Your taxidermy is almost exactly the way I do it. What is it that you spray unto the crazy glue? I like your twine holder,never seen that before. I use more caulking at the tail base, neck area, and over the whole body so the skin slides nice. Also shapes nice.
