Lovely place Simon. I've never been there but will amble around one day. The lake looked low - it is summer and we've had a reasonably hot one. Sure there are plenty of really nice places where you can refresh yourself. All the best. Mark

The boat tour is nice on a calm day. I kayaked most weekends in there for a year! Winter was best as no tourists lol

We once hired a rowing boat on Derwentwater and rowed to Herbert Island...we'd picked a choppy but sunny day and I had to go into the water up to my knees just to push to boat off the island! Why did we do it? A geocache hidden on the island, all pre-youtube days so there's no footage I'm afraid!
