A walk around Keswick the morning after Storm Desmond.
We start off at the bottom of Greta Street with a sea of smelly mud. the council workers are already in action to clear the mud off the streets. It's hard to believe that the river came right over the new flood defences as well as water pouring from the manhole covers in the main road. A look across the river Greta shows a flood damaged Fitz Park with over seven thousand tons of silt and rock washed down with the flood waters. Hundreds of trees were also washed down as entire bank sides further upstream ,were carried away under the force of the swollen river.
For one day, Keswick was cut off from the rest of the world with no one being able to leave OR enter the town. Thankfully the flood waters have subsided now.
Larry's Lodge is a dog friendly B&B. We are just a short walk from Keswick town center, Derwentwater and the fells.
