I have been to Alaska twice. I marvel at the wildlife. On your ventures what are some of the more "exciting" animal encounters that you have? Can you try to get some more footage of the animal and bird life that you come across? Be safe and thaks for shareing your adventures to us land-locked fan base!

Ken, I think some of our favorite encounters in Alaska were when the Humpback whale breached very close to the boat (too close for Rosy) outside of Juneau in 2018. In the same year we had 3 Humpback's swim right along the side of the boat right outside the marina in Ketchikan. This year, (and coming up in some videos) were 2 bubble feeding Humpbacks next to the boat outside of Fools Inlet and a 1st for us, in Ell Cove, a Grizzly Bear swam by the boat. He was crossing from one side of the bay to the other and just swam by, paying us no attention. Thanks for watching, Jim

LOL I like that the answer to the "do you have a drinking policy" question was preceded by a luxurious pull at the Merlot (or Pinot, or Cab, or whatever).😂 Good policy, too.

Enjoy watching and dreaming of the day to take my wife and kids on that adventure. My grandfather took me up in 95 when I was 10 years old. Since that trip it has been my goal to return. He had a 73 Fisher 30 just a wonderful boat tight quarters but no water was to big. You 4 stay safe look forward to seeing more videos.

Hello Jim and Rosie. Just found your channel and it's awesome. Really like the mix of technical and scenery. Have you done a full boat tour yet?
@CruisingSeaVenture3 жыл бұрын
Hi Douglas. Welcome aboard. We have, but it comes with a caveat. Since the boat tour video was done we have completely rebuilt the galley. We also have an engine room tour, but since that video was done, we did a major electrical upgrade, which was mostly in the engine room. Here are some links: Boat Tour: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goSTkKScoq-XkNk Engine Room Tour: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2fdZmppo7Sperc Electrical Upgrade: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX3UYZmXic2sl7c We also did a major upgrade to our swim platform: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mICrgKaBZblphtU Since your looking at older videos, it doesn't mention our website, which has all the videos well organized. Along with lots more info on Sea Venture. You can find it at: www.CruisingSeaVenture.com Enjoy, and thanks for watching, Jim

Fun videos. What headsets do you use?
@CruisingSeaVenture4 жыл бұрын
Mark, They are EarTec headsets. We are working on a website (it will go live in a few more weeks) and here is the description that will be on the website for the headsets: (we call them marriage saving equipment on board Sea Venture) Don't be "those people" we have all seen in marinas yelling at each other in a panic - just get some good headsets. We have gone through several versions and we like these the best by far. Now, for us older boaters, the ones that cover both ears works best - it drowns out noise you don't need to hear. Not only does it eliminate the yelling, it keeps everyone relaxed - you can "chit chat" while docking - for us, that means talking about what's for dinner! We also use these headphones when anchoring, fishing, and any other time we need to communicate when not right together on the boat. Here is a link to Amazon for the specific one's we have: amzn.to/3pLmINh Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching, Jim

To follow up with the last question, where are your choices for unfrozen harbors in Alaska? Thanks in advance.
@CruisingSeaVenture4 жыл бұрын
In SE Alaska none of the harbors freeze in the winter. It mostly rains we the average temperature in the upper 30's. Thanks, Jim
@goutvols1034 жыл бұрын
Cruising Sea Venture thank you for your. I have only been a tourist up there but I thought that Seward might freeze. Safe travels.

Jim the moorage situation is a tough one. Finding liveaboard slips is almost impossible. I have purchased boats for the slip. I am fortunate that I can sublet my slip if I travel. Is there a plan when you return. Maybe it's in a future q&a.
@CruisingSeaVenture3 жыл бұрын
We are currently in Wrangell Alaska where a slip was not a problem. When we return to Puget Sound it will just be for a stop over this coming August. In September we are heading down the coast with plans to be in Mexico for next winter. So at this point, there are no plans to have any moorage except for very short periods of time. Thanks, Jim

@@CruisingSeaVenture sounds great. Last one. What is the boat. I see you have the indestructible leymans.

Curious. When in the wheelhouse we often hear a buzzing sound. What is it?
@CruisingSeaVenture4 жыл бұрын
Great Question. I think what you are talking about is the auto pilot electric motor to the hydraulic pump the steers the boat. We have 2 auto pilots and both motors are inside the cabinets in the pilot house. Thanks, Jim

Hi, How deep do you run your paravanes
@CruisingSeaVenture4 жыл бұрын
Hi, they are 15 feet deep when sitting still. Slightly higher when running due to the angle. The theory is that you want them deep enough to hopefully make sure then do not ever come out of the water but not so deep that can easily reach the running gear if they were to be pushed sideways somehow. Thanks, Jim

What difference is there in the fuel burn with the ‘fish’ in the water?
@CruisingSeaVenture4 жыл бұрын
Christopher, Since we do not change the RPM of the engines, the fuel burn remains unchanged, but the speed of the boat can be effected. When the fish are in the water when it's calmer, we loose about 3/4 of a knot of speed. When the boat is rolling a lot due to heavy seas, then I think the seas have already slowed the boat about 3/4 of a knot, and you can put the fish in the water, get the stability, but not really notice any slower speed. I hope that helps. Thanks, Jim
@jaquigreenlees4 жыл бұрын
Ok Jim, here is a question for you. What is your range on full tanks with both engines? Follow up: What change in range if you only use 1 engine? As she sits I doubt Sea Venture has the range to do the Northwest Passage running both engines, yet she likely could on one engine.
@CruisingSeaVenture4 жыл бұрын
Jaqui, Thanks for watching. Our range with both engines is 4,450 NM. (2,158 gallons of diesel burning 3.15 gallons per hour at 6.5 knots) One one engine we burn about 1.7 gallons per hour at 5 4.75 knots, giving us a range of 6,000 NM. We have friends that have tried to convince us to try the NW Passage - which I think takes about 3,000 NM range - so at least on the fuel front, we should have no issue. Thanks, Jim

Cruise ships ruin every local island, town, etc., it's sad. I have been, but will never visit Ketchikan in the future during summer. The same goes for Cozemal and other destinations.
@CruisingSeaVenture4 жыл бұрын
Understood. Some People like the jobs it brings to the towns, others do not. For some it’s the only way to see SE Alaska. It does certainly completely change the towns - making them more like an Alaskan Disneyland. Since we cruise on our own boat, we have the opportunity to visit those places where the cruise ships do not go - we feel very fortunate as a result. I think it also gives us a completely different Alaska to visit then if you where to visit via cruise ship. Thanks for watching and commenting. Jim
