Great tutorial, but this exercise looks like it could seriously injure your spine. Anyone have anything to say regarding that?

Yes. Just like a swing, snatch, overhead squat, any other exercise can seriously injury if you don't take the right progression. Own the movement. Make sure you have flexibility. strength, stability, etc. If you don't have any of that and don't progress you will injure yourself, but it's not the exercise, it's the subject that lacked research, progression, investment, etc.
