if you cannot complete more snatches solely because your grip and hand is cramping, are you doing it wrong?
@stormrider1119
@stormrider1119 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobdole7292 sounds to me like you just need to build up gradually, doesn't necessarily mean you are doing it wrong. For snatches at the start I would only be doing say 3 to 5 at a time until I got comfortable with them. As with everything kettlebell related it just requires regular practice and you soon improve.

I’m in my early 70’s and I’ve been practicing KB workouts for about 2 months. I weight 166 pounds, my upper body is not too strong. I use a 25 pound KB doing squats and clean and press and hand to hand swings and American and Russian swings... I would like to practice the clean snatch. What weight should I use? I know that 25 pounds is too heavy for me at this time for the snatch.. thanks

I would build up your strength first before you move into the more complicated movements, get good at two and one have swings, cleans, gettuos, and the press and then, after you are really comfortable and confident with those movements, move into the snatch

Amazing video as always!!! You’re my absolute go to for all things kettlebell, Mark!! The only thing if I may point is, your camera person could work on his/ her recording skills a bit... some of the main movements and angles are just out of the frame... so whilst you do explain them so amazingly, it’s really hard to see them in the video. But thanks anyway. 👍 you’re the best.

Thanks for posting this video. I'm coming from the power building world. After a year long tendinitis and recovering from a work related hip injury my lifting was limited to machines. I first used kettlebells at the l.a. fitness expo back in 2007 but I was young and only worried about putting on muscle and lifting heavy so I paid no attention to it. October of 2019. I joined a new fitness gym. In the stretching area were miscellaneous kettlebells. I started using them. I'm a fast learner so after a few YT videos I came across yours. February 27th of 2020 was my 34th birthday and thanks to kettlebells I can deadlift over 400lbs and squat over 300lbs after years of not doing it. Kettlebells are also easier on my tendonitis when I'm pressing. I started with 35lbs kettlebells I can now easily swing the 60lbs kettlebells and cleans which I use as warmup for heavy deadlifts day. but i use swings on a daily as i find it a great cardiovascular exercise and i find it as a great carryover exercise.

Question: Once you can do a perfect snatch, isn't the swing redundant? Snatch, clean, hang pull, all this movements seem to be variants of the swing. So if, for example, I'm doing several sets of snatches in my workout, is it necessary to add swings to it?

A perfect explanation of this movement and the most intimidating KB movement for the initiate. The breakdown into component movements is precise. In the end though, as you point out, if it doesn't hurt you are mostly right! KBs rule! And honestly after a brutal KB session I am sore the next day but not broken/stupid sore, just sore. Broken stupid sore comes from the current gym wisdom. Dynamic weight is the real deal. No world records or props to you but you are the beast that is not seen. That is the best beast to be. I'm a massive fan of your content, and I will adopt some of your cues teaching the snatch for sure! But with a barbell I would argue that the correct position is trying to place the load directly over the palm heel of the hand, just like what you describe with the kettlebell, and not resting the weight up on the pad / callusus, it would put immense pressure on the wrists and limit your lifting ability, especially doing bench press and other high load exercises.
