I love that they have the 12 cup option as well for larger groups.

For the Essentials You can turn the heating plate manually. Simply hold down the pot button for a couple of seconds and it will glow red. I use that to reheat a pot.

My K-duo died after about 18 months. Called customer service and they had my serial number registered to someone else. Then we spent 30 minutes going over all types of test and questions about when and where I bought it. Eventually they said it doesn't work and is out of warranty. They will give me 20% toward a new one, but at list price. This ended up being higher than the $129 they are selling for Christmas right now. But for $79 I can get this essential at Walmart and after this review seems the way to go. I make a 10 oz. k-cup every morning and then about 3-5 times a year we have people over where I make a pot of coffee at 10-12 servings. So I don't see the advantage of replacing mine with the exact same one, especially since I paid $149 a couple of years ago and it is doesn't work. thanks as this review helped me make my decision.

Very helpful video, thanks. I was leaning towards the cheaper one since I don't need programming, but the 8 cup minimum on the carafe is a little silly. I'll probably just keep an eye out for a sale on the other one.

I like the dual feature. One tip : I like my coffee hot and though I live at sea level you can press Carafe and Cup buttons simulates for 3 seconds and a Mountain icon for high altitude appears giving you hotter coffee.😄 I hate the reservoir. I had the kind that was a pitcher which I liked. Now I fill a liter bottle and fill rather than remove the reservoir. Also if you want a charcoal filter you can't use a former one, you have to buy a shorty ($17 on Amz)😡

tlldr both machines have the same internals, but the Essentials machine just has a few less features it seems.

My de-scale light never went off. I’ve soaked it in vinegar and the chemical for de-scaling. Now the k-cup doesn’t brew a full cup unless I hit it on the side. I’m wondering if they upgraded anything.
