This latest video to the "Kev's workshop" series shows how I've repaired / serviced a set of Kato Uni Track points ( turnouts ) for a friend mine that I know , although he'd done some scenery around his layout - he'd mistakenly allowed some glue to find it's way into the inner workings & I've managed to free them up back to operational order again for him , although I "try" not to be too boring - I do appollogise if I am a bit during this video ( & in some of my other videos too ) but I do hope that it helps other modelers out to see "How it's done" to sort out the issue at hand ; To see where they've come from & to see where they'll be going back to - just look up the "Davo" channel by following this link that I've provided here for you , it's • Davo 2.2 - Wildlife an... should anyone be interested in seeing what Davo has achieved.
For those who are following my series of "Kev's Workshop" videos on You Tube - this is the 23rd episode that I did & there are plenty more since this video ; for more on this series you can subscribe to my channel or just keep checking here to see when I've uploaded another in this series or goto my "Kev's Workshop" website to see what I've done or have been doing.

That's the most understandable explanation of Kato points and sorting out the problems with them. Despite taking care with my scenery and masking the points and track, gunk or scatter managed to jam them. Fortunately your last 5-10 minutes explained the obvious cleaning I needed.

@@Locoman3801 supplemental question- what voltage is needed to shift the points - I've tried with my old DC transformer DC 'points' output but all I get is a buzzing noise but the blades don't mive

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Hi Leslie , I'm not too sure at the moment but I feel that they work on about 15-16V outputs but do look up the Kato website just to be sure as they might still have it listed somewhere in there or you can send them an e-mail to ask directly the last I remember , I can always ask a friend of mine for you if you don't get any help from them.

If you look closely, the frog resembles a frog, and that is how it came to be known as a frog. This was the first information I had encountered as to why railroad frogs are called "frogs" . . . and they do resemble the hind legs of a frog at rest, apparently sitting there, although I would guess that the apparent "sitting" position is actually that particular animal's standing position. Either way, the V resembles a frog's hind legs where the tip is the frog's rear end, and the top opening of the V is towards the frog's head. Made sense to me once I saw it, so I never sought any further. However, since then I have come across some information that provides a more complex explanation to the origin of utilizing the term "frog". This information began by mentioning how, prior to trains, we relied on horses as traction to get our ore, goods, and people to where they needed to be, and also how a transport oriented vocabulary was already well established long before the first trains began to roll. A "frog" can be found on the underside of a horse's hoof, and happens to be shaped like a letter V. Allegedly, early railway engineers were reminded of a horse's frog by the converging rails at a railway turnout, and the name stuck. As for the origin of a horse's frog, and how that term came to be is purely speculative because it's one of the oldest horse body parts to be named, but my source of information does state that it could be suggested that its function of pumping blood back up the horse's leg every time the horse treads down on it could resemble a frog's vocal sac. I don't know, especially about that resemblance to a frog's vocal sac. My money lies with the simplest explanation that it merely resembles a pair of frog legs.
