I remember summer of 2000 painting in and outside of my house with the first 3EB disc on repeat. Still one of my favorites

I agree with you man. Kevin is amazing and he’s also very down to earth. He’s taken the time to reply to me on twitter a few times including the time when I bought an MJ Mirage (the kind of guitar he is using in the video), and very few artists out there would do anything like that. I wish he and the other former members were still in Third Eye Blind, but I honestly could never see them trying to make the kind of songs that the current band is making. I’m glad they put XEB together but it’s a shame they haven’t performed together in awhile.
@BDKelso20004 жыл бұрын
@@Dcurc2257 I know right? The first two will always be the best and his compositions are only the surface of how amazing they were back then. Honestly, I would have been fine if they never made another album past “Out of the Vein” but I understand why they are still writing. Let’s not forget how amazing Arion is also. That dude is phenomenal on bass and his intro on “The Background” still remains one of my favorite bass lines ever written.

I completely agree as 3EB never recovered from kicking KG out (even though I actually liked Tony (KG's replacement) as a guitarist and person. Back when I was a on-air broadcaster, I had the luxury of meeting Third Eye Blind several times in different cities. I hate to say it, because lyrically Stephen was brilliant, but he was always a little jerkish to everyone. The rest of the band was always super cool (well, actually Arion was standoffish). Kevin was especially great and gave off this hanging out with a friend vibe. Later when Tony replaced Kevin, I met him as well and he was nice, but not like Kevin was just shooting the breeze with us. Musically, it became apparent that Kevin was the great songwriter of the group or at least that once he left, that great chemistry (writing wise) with Stephen was gone. The later albums by Third Eye Blind just don't compare with the first two albums - it's like Def Leppard after Steve Clark died or Gin Blossoms after Doug Hopkins died - both attempted to move on and still had moderate success, but it became obvious (3EB, Def & Gin Blossoms) that the key person making the great songs was missing. Just my two cents.

I hate to say it, but in my mind they needed each other. Band has never been the same without him, but his solo stuff doesn't quite reach me in the same way. I think they were both kinda geniuses and maybe there just wasn't enough room for all the egos. Kevin got screwed though, no doubt about it (Tony too probably). Music business is brutal but it probably didn't have to go down the way it did. Get the band back together, Doug! For real this time.

@@ArkansasTakeBack Yeah seems 3EB heart and soul is Kevin's sound and Stephen's lyrics. Apart it doesn't work. Nothing since Blue has come close to the first two albums. For the single note solo stuff towards the end, I'm wondering what scales hes using for that tuning. Do you have to memorize what you want to do? Are there new scale boxes to learn? Does he just know the third string is E so he's able to adjust everything by 2 notes? Hmm!!! Very impressive

Hey there! The tuning for “Wounded” is DADEAC#. It’s a variation of Open-D but some of the strings are tuned differently than normal. I hope this helps in case you are still trying to learn the song :). Also, if you have Twitter, don’t hesitate to ask Cadogan on there cause he is very kind about reaching out to people who have questions about his music.

@@MCMIXING Jenkins wasn't the main reason they were successful though. As happened over and over, his collaborators were robbed of credit and their fair share of profits from the very songs they wrote together. Kevin was simply the first one to get the axe and I remember the falsehoods being pushed about him as to why he was let go. "Oh, he didn't really write many songs and I'm the main songwriter yet he wanted a 50/50 share of the profits. " Now that every major collaborator has sued or been sued by Jenkins we know who was the main cause of the issues...his greed.
@linuskangas9791 Жыл бұрын
Jenkins is brutal but so is the music business, honestly. Kevin and Tony seem to have gotten pretty raw deals, but it could have been worse probably. No one can match what Kevin brought to the band, in my opinion, and I absolutely loved Tony. How has Brad stayed in the band this long?!
