So interesting to learn about the underworld of the dance world, how social media works and just enough of strictly goss to hold attention. Kevin from Grimsby you really are Scott Hastings!

Kevin is the loveliest guy and the best dancer Strictly has ever had. It's shameful the best in the ballroom world are picked via loyalty and cash, not talent. I am so sorry you were abused by someone that should of known better Kevin, it's abhorrent and these children with stars in their eyes deserve so much better. From one survivor to another, I send you much 💕giant 🤗s. I also can't wait to see your documentary.. Great interview. x

Kevin my hats off to you for being so candid and allowing fear to hold you hostage. How then do you know whether you are really good at your craft? is there away? Does we who have chosen to be answerable only to our entrepreneurial desires, have a bettter life. We who chose to mould our own trumpet and blow it with those who journey with us and celebrate us, for real achievement.

Well said Kevin. I compeated from the age of 10 yrs. My dance teacher Dawn Westwood use to compeat against Shirley Ballas who was then Shirley stopford. I'm late 40's now and had the same currupt experience. Its worse when you turn pro, its like swimming with sharks. Shirley Ballas is definitely currupt. You are a fantastic dancer & a wonderful person. I wish you & your new family every happiness in the future. Jane

Well done Kevin, stipping drinking. How your life has done a complete turn around & more success with girlfriend & baby & playing your dream character on stage. My daughter was a very keen ice skater, figure skating,She was only a child but the amount of parentage were downright rude and creepy with her, like one male parent who looked her up and down very much lecherous in manner and told his own daughter t hat it was ok to be as nasty as possible to the other kids to mess with their confidence, make them skate badly because of the stress they were out through, it was really horrible and worrying that adults would behave like this! My daughter still loves ice skating but is too busy with work to do it much, but it's those horrible experiences that she remembers most. It's nasty and competitive, but not healthy

I had a kids team (just country western dancing) who just loved dancing and we were in a competition which was to take us to Holland. The person organising the events phoned me to say we could just go through without competing! Of course we turned it down! I spoke to the kids and they felt the same as me and wouldn't go. We also realized the person who would do that would also organise the final winners!

Thank you for the toolkit and great interview. Loved the variety yet linked topics from the murky world of 'paid to become' champions through to dancing as an olympic sport, as well as the value of mastering your own persona and bringing your audience with you as you grow - balancing art and commerce. Nice amount of personal sotries to illustrate the journey too.

In view of all the recent controversy about Strictly, this just highlights the problems that people are still sweeping under the carpet. I stopped watching Strictly years ago but missed Kevin as he's such a sweet bloke from a family of ballroom dancers, who was always in it for the love of dancing. Becoming famous only happened because of his (and his sister's) great talent and hard work.

Lovely listening to Kevin. I was told this by an editor of a well known daily newspaper, that they won't won't print anything unless there is a tiny grain of truth in it, therefore, it was true he wouldn't comment on his ex, although it was unsolicited by Kevin.. Anything can be elongated to a story, based on this. It's true they watch houses and workplaces and also go through bins though.

The world of dance was exactly the same in ice skating. I was horrified as a child to watch parents and teachers back stabbing everyone, including children around them, to promote their “chosen” child who was going to win/get the male partner within the skating world. The bullying I was subjected to by every adult and child at one rink drove me to leave. At the next rink, I knew parents were paying for the privilege of being the best in the U.K. I walked away from the “sport” when I could just not “work out” how to get teachers to take me seriously to the extent some teachers refused to teach me. Not even talking about whether I had the talent for it. I wasn’t even given the opportunity to get better.
