His ability to Defend, Rebound, Shoot, Energize, Pass, Dunk, Block and understanding the fundamentals of this beautiful game demands respect of any true Basketball fan. His love, passion and tenacity for the game is incomparable. Thank You KG for 21 years to watch you play. Sincerely from a Raptors Fan.

When I was growing up. I could never watch a full game. KG literally made me get up and go outside to play ball. He gave me so much energy from just watching him. Full sweat just from his warm up drills. He was coming to eat your heart out. The intensity was so real I couldn’t sit in the house anymore. No other player had this effect on me.

LeBron had to form two big 3's to win his chips, Kobe had to have Shaq then Gasol, Duncan had Robinson then Parker and Ginobli. Even Jordan didn't win until Pippen became an all-star caliber player. So you can't bash Garnett and especially Iverson because they never had that kind of help.

I was a huge fan of KG when he was in Minnesota. He could do everything on the court and was so versatile but his teams weren't good enough to win it all aside from that 2003-04 season. He never demanded a trade from that team even when they were awful during his final years. When the Celtics beat L.A. in '08 I hated seeing my team lose the way they did but was happy that The Big Ticket had finally won. You don't see many players that have his heart and passion for the game.

C: Bill Russell - he should have 10/10 defensive poty just sucks they didn't exist yet. ...because of varying duties, we'll say, players are compared via position. You're not alone - I'm not from Minnesota, but KG was and still is my all-time favorite. The man could do everything on the court, he loved his team's community, (both in Minnesota and Boston, I admit I didn't follow the Brooklyn years super-close) stayed mostly-if-not-completely free of controversy and legal trouble throughout his career, and even towards the end he was still playing at a well-above-average level. I realize he doesn't have as much hardware as a lot of the more talked-about folks in GOAT conversations, but that's sure as shit not his fault.

I was sad to see him leave the Celtics, but Minnesota is where this legend began and where it rightfully should end. Trough the KG years,Minesotta was never a top 5 defense in the league as far as point allowed go. In 2000-01 season they were ranked 14 in points allowed,the next year they ranked 16th,then they were at number 18 and only in 2003-04 all the way trough 2005-06 the were a bit batter because they ranked 7th,then 9th and in 2005-06 they were at number 8. They were average most of the time and pretty good in KG's prime years but never elite. There are some people who think everything used to be better but once you people are presented with real statistics you don't know what to say anymore. I garantee you that people who played in the 80's or watched basketball in the 80's,they all tough that basketball in 2005 was soft. PS : All the stats are from basketball reference under the Minnesota Timberwolves team index.
@Reeferal
@Reeferal 7 жыл бұрын
Stats are skewed in some ways regarding defence due to rule changes. Zone defence was prohibited back in the day. On the flip side hand checking and more physical play was allowed. That's on both side of the ball though. Less offensive and defensive fouling, but more iso and man to man defence. It's safe to say there wouldn't be anywhere near as many successful point guards if the rules never changed however guys like Lebron may have been even more successful because they'd be allowed to be more physical and wouldn't have to contend with zones.

Karl Anthony Towns. KG has been mentoring him all year long and probably will continue doing so even after retirement. He's in a perfect situation, great young talent around him, great coach in Thibodeao and a great fucking mentor in KG. So we don't have to wait another 10 years, the next KG already is here and he's playing in Minnesota ironically enough.

nick : Here’s where your argument falls apart: KG may in fact be the “best” PF to ever lace them up, but that doesn’t make him the “greatest.” KG > TD (better) TD > KG (greater) Failure to recognize this distinction is the reason LeBron is so overrated, and one reason people’s rankings don’t line up evenly. LeBron is a a great athletic talent, but IMO he’s not that great of a player! People can disagree all they want to. Most people never even consider that there’s a distinction between better and greater. When you rank BEST players, Dominique is a arguably a top-10 player, right there with Jordan, Magic, Kobe, Kareem, Oscar, Bird, and Hakeem. When you rank GREATEST players, he can’t even crack the top-25, because there are too many more accomplished players who got the most out of their abilities. ‘Nique, for all of his talent, never won a ring, never made any players around him better players. Are Doc Rivers, Kevin Willis or Cliff Levingston HoFers? That stuff matters. I know that James Worthy might not be considered to be a top-50 player if not for Magic! I doubt Manu Ginobli would be a HoFer without Duncan and Parker. This is where you must start to understand the differences between KG and TD. If KG > TD, KG should be ranked in the top-15 players of all-time. TD should still be ranked ahead of KG, because rings matter in the NBA more than they do in other sports. Individual players can impact teams more in Basketball, Soccer and Hockey than they can in Baseball or football. TD is “greater” than KG, because he won more, and was probably a better leader - though not by much. He made players around him better just through his silent leadership and work ethic. That has to matter. Parker and Ginobli are HoFers in part because of TD. Even Steve Kerr and Robert Horry may one day get in because of TD. TD made former coach Avery Johnson look like a genius! But KG was “better” - as in more talented. Better = Inputs (talent) Greater = Talent + Skills + Outputs* Skills are gained through hard work. For instance, Magic learned the baby sky hook when he got to the pros. Jordan wasn’t that great with his left hand, or a great outside shooter, when he was first drafted. He learned those things over time. Talent is INNATE. Were born with it. Skills are LEARNED. When people use the term “developing talent” they are really using a fallacious expression, because talent can’t be developed. What you develop is skills to maximize your talent the development of skills is how we get maximum outputs. *Outputs are accomplishments (i.e. titles, title game appearances, team & individual statistics, All-Star game appearances, international/Olympics performances, impact on other players and careers, individual awards & accolades, etc.) Talent Skills Outputs Those are all different concepts. So when we debate players, we have to insure that we are debating the same stuff and not comparing apples to oranges
