Kevin's absolutely right about contemporary worship music being boring 😴. The same words, phrases, and I-V-vi-IV chord progression are used at an absurdly monotonous oblivion. I understand that he's a creative and authentic creatives naturally don't fit into the contrived religious box of the CCM industry. Glad to see him truly express himself.

I hate the fact that Kevin is being maligned by the evangelicals but at the same time I am thrilled that what he’s doing nowadays makes them so uncomfortable. I am from Kevin’s hometown (used to work with his wife Amanda a million years ago, right around the time they met) and Kevin was the ultimate Christian celebrity in my former evangelical megachurch, along with the rest of DC Talk. I dealt with a lot of backlash when I left the church years ago, and especially more recently when I became vocal about my experiences. While I know my experience isn’t unique and should be expected after leaving the church, it did bother me to lose friendships I’d worked on for decades. The growing visibility of exvangelicals online and hearing from someone like Kevin in this space, like April said, is definitely validating. Thank you for this episode!

I am not uncomfortable because I went through it myself. Although, I came out on the other side a stronger believer. I found that a lot of questions I had are answered in apologetics. I started with historical evidence of the bible and went from there. My heart goes out to anyone struggling with their faith, or leaves the faith. A lot of churches are just businesses and it angers me. So I am not defending the typical mega church at all!

Of the 3 dc talk members, Kevin has my favorite solo stuff. While I do consider my self a bible believing Christian, I live by 1 Corinthians 13. I have biblical moral standards, but still love people. Because quite frankly, I don't live up to those standards myself. I questioned my faith about 10 years ago, which lead me on a truth seeking journey. First thing I did was check the historical accuracy of the bible. I am now convinced that it is true, and inspired by God! My channel is all about how I got there. I consider myself a truth seeker. I am not a Republican, but more of a Ron Paul Constitutional Libertarian. Both parties are controlled by globalists trying to enslave us.

I was a fan of DCtalk growing up. From the very first album I was hooked. I remember them saying "if we cross over, we are taking the cross over". It crushes my heart to see them crash and burn into a life of pure deception, especially when I defended their music to many pastors and youth pastors. It angers me they took the Babylonian oath. Where is your Masonic ring Kevin? I know you have one.

I guess I'm out of the loop and in my own little world. I am a musician and a Christian. As a Christian I try to love people the way Christ showed love. And as a musician, i enjoy sharing music. So, i share the love of Jesus through music. Does that make me an evangelical? And if so, is that bad? Should I stop loving and sharing? I am confused as to why this is a topic and where it comes from

It's just the poisonous deconstruction movement where if you see something in scripture that doesn't work for you, you can leave it out and sin the way ya want to without conviction. Basically allows somebody to say they're a believer but at the same time, not actually be one. It's a literal walk in hypocrisy and delusion. It's adversarial to evangelism, which is the sharing of the Gospel. It doesn't witness, except to talk crap on Christianity and evangelicals.

I am also still an evangelical. I love Kevin's music, but saddened by his deconstruction as well as others O know. But I also feel for him, because I went through a time of questioning my faith and truth seeking not too long ago. I found that a lot of questions I had were answered in apologetics. And I came out with a stronger faith on the other side. I think the moral standards of the Bible are becoming more objectionable to the secular world and cause many to fall away from the faith.

Exvangelical? I’ve never heard of this. Where have I been? I am a Bible believing Christian but it’s taken me several decades to get here. I like to question everything and know the reason I believe what I believe. So I just wanted to ask does being an evangelical mean you deny that Jesus is Lord? I’ll check out Scott Walker. I grew up loving Bowie and always will. PS I am listening to Scott Walker now and I can hear Bowie all over the place! Thank you for helping me discover new music. Holy shit, I mean I only listened to 1 christian band growing up that I actually liked and that was dc talk, what an amazing voice he has and his music really took me places, in the light and what if I stumble really kept me going when things were tough and I still had that perspective. Now I’m an atheist, I feel free and it’s amazing that Kevin is able to be honest with himself despite really being shown a lot while he was “in the club”. Just simply amazing to hear him speak

He never was truly in a relationship with Jesus. If you are, you never truly walk away. This is the problem with the gospel music industry. It doesn't take a Christian to be a gospel artist. It is the biggest selling genre in the industry and not everyone singing to Jesus is actually in a relationship with him, sadly. Doesn't mean he's not a great artist though.
