That is a typical german crowd reaction. Germans are not so shouty and usually not very extrovert when in a crowd (except in heavy metal festivals ;) ). Actually, when they are dead silent, you haver their utmost attention and respect. Plus, do not forget this is a recording of the keynote, so the crowd was probably not recorded seperatly, so if you hear the crowd, it is through Kevin's microphone.

I wonder if encryption would even exist if it wasn't for these people and would the government then just be able to drop in on us whenever. Its kind of like saying war has no benefits as crap as war is and should be avoided it has benefits from great medical advancements to great technology advancements. Its just a fact of life. +Imie Nazvisko I totally agrre, man, but it doesn't keep me for feeling sorry, since I go through the same shit. By shit I mean the fact that, still, usually the layman reacts in either one of the follow ways: 1) They find it amusing and the abstract themselves from the hard reality that this is a threat that will almost certainly affect them in the course of the next decade in some way or another, or 2) they feel terrified and still think this is some evil voodoo resource that would never cross their paths because they acknowledge themselves as a regular John Doe on whom nobody would ever try such a "complex, sci-fi, black magic" strategy to deprive them from what they cluelessly think to be limited to spectrum of their prrivacy. And they even probably giggle at the sound of their inner voice whispering "go ahead, man, I'm not the only one that watches porn". The thing about Kevin is that even having picked up only two bits of data, he'd probably find a genius way of social engineering your ass to get some brilliant piece of info... and from there to the stars. ;)

One of the most puzzling episodes of my life was one of being on the subway and witnessing a woman in business attire get up off the train and leave behind a duffle bag. I called out to get her attention and she didn't turn around. When I peeked in to find out what it was that she had left I saw that it was full of a hundred or so usb sticks and a couple hard drives. People were looking at the back and supposing it was a bomb; short story short, I picked up the bag and brought it to an MTA station attendant who begged me not to leave it with them. To this day I still wonder what was left behind in those USBs and why someone would just leave them behind.

He could use the same computer running virtual machines to demonstrate everything. My guess is that he wanted people to understand better the concept of attacker and target for that matter. His attacks were all from an Apple laptop but he was actually running Ubuntu and Kali Linux from a virtual machine on it. Apple's macOS (previously OSX) is also an Unix like operating system nowadays. The XNU kernel is a hybrid of Darwin and FreeBSD, that said he could compile pretty much everything from source code to run natively on his Apple laptop if he wanted too.

The HID card particularly intrigues me. Considering that the CardID has 10k combinations (which may very well have many registered matches within the company) and the SiteID (which apparently only holds 1k values to check against) wouldn't it be possible to bruteforce this instead? What software is used to check against these ID's, and do they log what HID cards have come in proximity of them and tried to "authenticate"?
