Exactly man. No one ever thinks about that. I cannot simply imagine growing up as he grew up, his life and identity being wrestling/the wrestling business, dealing with all of that in such a short time frame (a matter of a few years), and constantly having to be reminded and relive it. I hate when wrestling "fans" whine themselves about wrestlers being "bitter" when they ought to know (with them being so SMART and all..) that there are multiple reasons *for* them being bitter. Not to mention the fact that others opinions regarding another wrestler, a promoter/booker, the industry itself, etc has absolutely *nothing* to do with their own lives. Too many "fans" trying to live vicariously through these wrestlers and it's sad.

BRET: Bret is my all time favorite. But Bill clearly feels horrible about it. He loved Bret, looked up to him. Imagine the guilt? Bill can act tough because he's constantly attacked over it, but you know he feels bad. I understand how Bret feels of course, but it was an accident. Bret forgave Vince and Shawn who did something bad to him ON PURPOSE! I'd love it if one day Bret could forgive Bill. In a very weird way, that accident may have actually saved Bret's life by forcing him to retire early. Most everyone Bret ran with? They're all gone. You never know. BREAKING THE STREAK: My problem with Nash breaking Goldberg's streak is HOW they did it! Why not make Kev look strong? Have f*ck finish without a cattle prod, just a bunch of run-ins that Kev and Bill have to fend off together. Have them work together to fend off all the interference, but have Bill get seriously injured as a result. Kev can want the match to stop because he doesn't want to win that way, but Bill insists the match continue. And because of his injuries, Bill is no match for the power of Nash, and Nash breaks the streak fair and square. Afterwards, Kev checks on Bill and Bill shakes his hand, showing respect. FINGER POKE: This match should've seen a face off between nWo Wolfpack and nWo Hollywood, with all the big names and minor players involved. A big brawl breaks out, but instead of it being just red and black attacking black and white, it's the reformed core: Hogan, Hall, Nash, Steiner and Bischoff. As the four (and EZ-E) kick every other excess member out of the ring and out of the group, Nash and Hogan face off in the ring, with Nash handing over the title to Hogan, and the ref making the title change official. nWo NOTES: The nWo should've never had any member that wasn't recognized as a former WWF wrestler. Hogan should've dropped the leg against Sting, not Savage. Bret should've come in as a babyface and gone after heel Hogan, getting the title from him. But with everyone (including me) who's criticized how the nWo storyline ended (or didn't) I'd argue it went the ONLY way it could, organically. The egos of the three mega stars, and their trying to get everyone to join, ultimately destroyed their group, they destroyed themselves, and actually did help to bring down WcW. WWF INVASION: The REAL invasion actually began when Ric Flair became 50/50 owner of WWF. Everything leading up to that was, in my mind, a secret invasion. Ric was secretly pulling the strings to take over WWF behind the scenes the entire time! In my mind, anyway. LOL

The problem with he finger poke wasn't that it was a finger poke. There was a 50% chance a Nitro main event was ending in a bullshit finish, so it came with the territory. The problem was they said, "Everything we've been building, with Goldberg, the Wolfpac, Hogan/Nash, all of it is dead, now here's the nWo again." They took a gigantic step backward. People were upset with Goldberg losing, but everyone was ready for WCW World Champion Kevin Nash. That had been building for years, and they threw it away, and for what? Another nWo, another Hogan heel run, and more of Nash being second-in-command. Everything they built towards, everything the fans were on board and ready for, came crashing down in three seconds.

Bret's thing is that he had a great career and never caused an injury to anyone. He was really safe. His problem is understanding that everyone else in the industry didn't hold safety as the most important thing. Goldberg was green and wanted to look dominant, and that caused a lot of problems for a lot of people. Almost all of those were potatoes that were short term problems. Unfortunately for all of us, he ran into the wrong foot at the wrong time, and it robbed him of a longer career in his twilight years. I love every match Bret ever had, and it sucks he got his head kicked into the third row, but I would rather him getting the wrong end of a Goldberg kick than an accidental botched powerbomb like what happened to Droz. I’m sure merch sales for NWO stuff was going ok, but really what did that matter if most of that money was probably going to Hogan. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and what happened- it was just part of the job. I do wish he had been a little bit more careful, but we’ve always been friends over the years.”, then in various interviews around 2010-12 he routinely would say that he never held a grudge against him cause it was an accident. There's also pics around that time of them two hanging out and being buddies. It wasn't until around 2017 when Goldberg got the massive Saudi pay day and CM Punk brought up the fact that Bret could be getting that huge pay day if it wasn't for Bill injuring him where Bret started his Goldberg stuff. Punk's comments led to alot of the "internet fans" to bring it up to Bret at conventions and live shows which in turn made the worker Bret Hart double down on it cause he saw the rise it got out of the fans that come to see him.

But risks happen every time people get in that ring look at what happened during a Rey Mysterio Indy match. Owen Hart came from wrestling royalty and cost Austin years on his career. RIP Owen who was an amazing talent but more importantly had his life cut short as a father and husband. Hurting someone or being the person that ended someone’s career I would never wish for anyone to have to live with. These guys are really out there to protect each other and to make each other look good. It’s how they move up and get paid. Which is an incredible show of restraint and being emotionally strong when you have 2 people with real animosity towards each other in the ring and they get a little stiffer than normal with each other which looks great to us at times. Shawn and Bret always stand out to me for this. Incredible matches, that had some stiffer shots than normal but at the end of the day they made each other look great and neither were hurt from negligence.

If it had been a rare occurrence of injuring people I don’t think Bret would of had an argument, but there are lots of times before and after Goldberg hurt other people, all the way up to Taker in Saudi Arabia. From what I have gathered listening to Bret's take on the kick, He said Goldberg called something, but he didn't hear what he said, and Bill just whipped him in the ropes and when Bret came back the kick was just there. If you watch the spot that kick is pretty solid as well. Bret's gripe is Bill apparently did apologize but I guess it was one of those not believable apologies that people say just to get you to drop it and move on and not sincere. Not only did Bill cost Bret his career, and tons of money etc, that kick is what eventually led to Bret having his stroke in 2001. Now imagine dealing with all that, on top of losing your brother, Brother-in-Law, 3 close friends (Pillman, Rude, Hennig, Bulldog) all before your stroke, except Henning who died in 2003. Also, He lost both his mother and father during this timeframe give or take. Bret has been through a ton of Hell in his life, and from what I have heard, he's mostly in a better place and happy. but people still say he whines or is bitter, when they forget Bret is being ASKED about these topics in interviews. It's not like he's just going around bitching and moaning.

Theres a quote from Picasso that I remember that says "We artists are indestructible; even in a prison, or in a concentration camp, I would be almighty in my own world of art, even if I had to paint my pictures with my wet tongue on the dusty floor of my cell." If anything Bret Hart was an artist, a naturally gifted talent in the ring. His ability to make that art was cut short by a spinning back calf kick from a man known for being reckless and injuring opponents. I think he has the right to be a little bit bitter.

@soulofanerd9364Ай бұрын
3:40 I'd like to think I have a good if not GREAT grasp of pro wrestling booking/storyline psychology having watched wrestling since 1984/85....I HAVE NO IDEA what point Nash is making by saying "turn the most over guy". If Nash was that over as a face (which I agree with reluctantly because I far preferred Hall and think HE would have been better suited for that role given his huge run as babyface Razor and even his original face run in 1985/86 AWA), why does turning him heel a week later make good sense???? The only thing I can figure is to take some "love" off of Nash and back "on" to Goldberg since apparently he was losing steam?? 🤷🏽♂️. I've heard Bobby Heenan say they absolutely shouldn't have broken the streak but he also hasn't had good things to say about Nash (he does about Hall though) so maybe he just didn't believe Nash should have gotten that moment.

The problem happened before the kick. When Bret did the figure 4 outside of the ring post Goldberg was supposed to grab his leg. He didn't which caused Bret to hit his head on concrete so he was out of it before the kick happened. Goldberg like Warrior never wanted to learn but just be a star.

Bret's opinions of wrestling and the business are backed up by decades of experience at the highest performance standards. With that said, he does seem to exist in a world where results become a shoot (ironically of course, one actually was) and he always had to be the hero.

The whole hand up thing…Bret had his hands up. Didn’t matter, like Kevin said he kicked through the hands. It was clearly not intentional but the issue was that Bill was so green in the ring he shouldn’t have been in the position he was in. He was set up to fail unfortunately.

One thing that a lot of people seem to miss, is people with severe head injuries and in their senior years aren’t the most well mentally. They do tend to “whine” and complain because they can’t manage certain things. Bret didn’t complain about Goldberg as much as he had in the past few years now that he’s older.

huge fan for a very long time but you said it best, it was your job and life happens and people get hurt on the job everyday from a wrestler to a paperboy to a cop etc., it's possible many people, fans especially forget wrestling is your profession and that you are still very much everyday people when not on the mat or in front of the camera. i'll always be a fan of you, Goldberg and Hart and i respect the Hell out of the Hitman but as someone who can hold a grudge for decades i can say for certain, it isnt healthy. Seen too many clips, vids, podcasts etc of this exact topic for about 7 years straight and seriously think it's time for a therapist for those two. I have two severe impulse/anger control issues managed without meds, without some drum circle, just old school putting the time and work in to sort past the stuff I couldnt let go of then and have to deal with now so I can enjoy my future and just the right therapist or something can help them get passed that incedent, just my two cents, Wolpac 4 Life
@mox193804 ай бұрын
it's not really a matter of getting your hands up. the issue is that goldberg was too close or did start his kick soon enough. you don't actually kick a person with a super kick. you extend your leg to their face, when the person is coming of the ropes the leg is extended and the person runs into your foot. If you watch the match Goldbergs still kicking (extending his leg) when bret hits, so bret is getting kicked in the face. getting your hands up isn't going to protect you from a 300lb body builder former nfler kick to your temple. it may dampen it some but you're likely to be concussed regardless.
@Matt-cr4vvАй бұрын
I get why people feel that Brett is a big whiner. But as I get older and think about it I also get a lot of why he feels the way he feels. He loved being in the WWF, to the point he took a much lesser deal, Rather than leaving in the first place. I don't think people always appreciate just how much the difference in deals really was when you look at the difference in terms between what he had on the table with WCW versus the 20-year deal he signed to stay. Even if he is simply just loyal to WWF, he could have simply signed a 3-year deal for the 1.5 million a year like the first 3 years he had in his 20-year deal with the WWF and he still would have been taking 1 million less a year over the same time then the deal he left for and got with WCW. So it should really show how passionate he was for the WWF over WCW because not only did he take $3 million less, he also locked himself up for the subsequent 17 years making substantially less money than what his open market would be if he had just signed for three and negotiated something different. Then he's kind of forced out to leave and the only reason he does so is the money in WCW and even then he didn't get all of it because he got hurt and they started slashing how much they were paying him and let him go early. Then mix in all the stuff that happened with his family and friends around the same time as well and you can't really fault a guy for having a hard time getting over all of that.
@grantmcphee51494 ай бұрын
The big problem with the Bret Hart Bill stuff is the loads of people are wrong about what happened and about what happened. Eric Bischoff is talked about it recently and nearly all the points he made were wrong. He made a big deal out of the fact that Brett hit his head on the figure 4 around the ring post spot and how that probably causes much trauma as the kick and Brett needs to be honest about it blah blah blah... The problem is Brett has from the start said that he took multiple head traumas in that match including the figure 4 around the ring Post. Bill was at fault for all three. Now I see people saying it's Brett's fault because in a pro wrestling match he didn't defend himself properly from his opponent. I guess they think you're supposed to sandbag your opponent when they try to pick you up too. The only thing I will say about Brett's and his reputation for being a whiner is that I think his head traumas and his stroke have contributed to him becoming more emotional. Is interviews post retirement but before his stroke were not of the time that he gives these days. 4 lakh of a better word he's just more emotional now. I'm sure age is a contributing factor too.

Bret is bitter. When Shawn had his incredibly successful decade-long comeback, Bret couldn't stop crying about Montreal. When Shawn retired and Goldberg had his resurgence, Bret's target conveniently shifted. I know he loves to make cheap snide remarks about Triple H being a nobody lackey back in the day. I can only imagine how salty he is these days now that Hunter is running the show and is proven to be very good at it. I think Bret has probably had this decades-long fantasy about Triple H flopping.
